Oh gosh I feel awful when I break an egg. Even worse if you break one when you aren't hardly getting any.You are lucky. I did get my first egg since my hawk attack a few weeks back. My Icelandic hen who was laying almost daily stopped with the stress. she laid today though. Then I broke it![]()
so I have 5 crele hens who all look ready to lay . 2 white empordanesa that are close as well. No eggs though![]()
I hope they all start feeling safe again soon. I know you have done alot to help keep them safe!lol I guess I assumed...Ha ha that may be the only chicken I don't have!! Ha ha. I feel the same as you Jason!! I just want some to look at as I'm vowing no new breeds until I have an empty pen!!!! ;-)
Thanks Amy Beth. I am trying too. If we end up getting this place which it appears we are. I will be moving them in a few weeks so it could be months lol...Oh gosh I feel awful when I break an egg. Good Job on the Netting!Chooklet - soooooo tempting, but I must focus on my breeding!
Ron - I love it when they start back up from molt. It's nice knowing we are headed in the right direction getting eggs again.
More pictures - This is what I did this afternoon, with some help from my 12 and 9 year old. After some daytime predator losses, I ordered this netting. Took quite a while to get it installed, but I think it will work out well.

Is that a regular red tailed hawk? The ones around my house fly pretty high in the sky/hard to see them that close.
I really want some Langshans, I've PMed people from that thread but no one has any local, do you know of anyone selling chicks? I don't have an incubator (crazy I know)
Beautiful pics everyone. We were so busy today doing projects. DH is working on our poolside structure (not sure what to call it yet) but it's finally coming along. Got the 2 huge beams up on the upright posts. I'll take some pics tomorrow. I can't believe DH got them up over 9' high by himself using just ladders!!!!
I've been pruning roses and getting ready to plant more fruit trees. Hopefully we'll get about 8 more in the ground tomorrow. Gotta clean my coop out tomorrow too. All that rain we had soaked the bedding, so I'll put down a layer of sand and wood ash before adding dry sawdust.
Not getting many eggs, just a couple per day....what free loaders. I have about 4 hens that decided to do a late moult and are looking quite bare in this cold weather LOL.
I had to laugh at my big blue roo....he ate way too much goodies and looks like he's trying to get a breast augmentation...Don't worry his crop went down to normal size, but he just looked funny this day. His tail if finally growing back in...he did a complete moult and lost all his tail feathers. I'm using him again on his daughters because he's so beefy and want his size to pass on.

What do duck eggs taste like? I think we used to eat them when I was young but it was a long time ago lolI just sold some excess duck eggs today. I have way more than I need. People weren't kidding when they said when your birds start laying - the eggs would roll in like crazy! We cannot eat them fast enough. haha I am making egg salad this weekend though. YUM!
I made scones today. Any baked good that is semi healthy- I am whipping them up lol. Since we don't buy snack foods- we rely on my moments of betty crocker to whip up stuff. Anyone every made bearnaise sauce? Or eaten it? Is it good?
