I want to decorate the coops this year!

Ron - glad your chick is doing better.

Amy - I don't know about the ducks, but your chickens will be molting next fall. So you'd better hatch new ones this spring/summer to keep you in eggs. My barred rock lays an egg with white speckles, like your Betty.

waititout - beautiful eggs!

I got both coops completely cleaned out. Everything is so nice and fresh now. I had been trying to deep litter, but with the last storm, it got stinky. So out it went.

I don't light my coops - for one, I don't have electricity in my coops and for two, it messes up the light sensor for the automatic door.

On a positive note: December 21st is right around the corner and then the days start getting longer!

YAY! I'm already tired of the dark/cold/wet/mud. We haven't been able to even have fires because of the remodel. We had so much furniture pushed into the corner with the woodstove. But today we can get the rest of it moved away and DH is on the roof cleaning the chimney. Tonight, our first toasty fire of the year.

I'm even ready to tackle summer heat again....but spring would be nice for awhile this year (in fact nine months of the year, with three months of fall, perfect).

Happy Chooks, I wanted to tell you (since you raise them) that my Welsummer started laying eggs...FINALLY! She is 32 weeks old, for goodness sakes.

It was worth the wait, though. Ginger's eggs are a deep rust color with tiny brown speckles -just gorgeous!

Ginger is a really pretty girl too (especially considering she was bought at the feed store). One of these days I'll post pictures. I would love to see pictures of your Welsummer's to see how Ginger measures up.
