Do you let your girls into the sun? Do the partridges not have trouble with fading? That seemed so strange when I was reading about the feather fading, it freaked me out a wee bit. Ive been looking for silkie people to ask!
I do let them out in the sun... Im sure it can cause fading but Im not showing now so I let them out and dont worry about it. I get more worried about the fading with the blacks. If I were conditioning them for show I would take care with that but I like chickens, even Silkies, to get to be just chickens most of the time

. My Partridge already look sun bleached lol

!

The night sure are getting colder now. My girls and roos to are in the run so they have the heat lights on. I went out this morning and looked a little clloser t one girl cuz i heard her sneeze. and a few others are sneezing and have watery eyes. I gave them the vetrx in there water. but that is only good for when the water is warm. is there any thing else that works other then medicated treatments? tina

Aww, they are such pretty girls!

Hey Everyone,
I'm excited to report that I finally sold Mr. Puff.

He was just being too aggressive with tiny, Mysty Blue. He was about 5 pounds and she weighs about 1 pound so he could have hurt her from his size. He had also been yanking feathers out of her face and beard when breeding her. The only good thing about all that is that Mysty Blue can actually see out of her crest for the first time! The person who bought him has a bunch of chickens and he will have some turken ladies to hang out with.

I saved 5 of their eggs and will probably start incubating today. I'm hoping she lays another today so I'll have half a dozen.

These will be the first babies from my chickens. We still have Leo Pierre who is an even better looking splash silkie rooster -he just isn't as dominant.

Chickens don't catch colds like we do, so sneezing and watery eyes is never good. Separate the ones with symptoms and think about anti biotics.

Could be black mold too.

I hope they get better soon!

Ron- how old are these silkie mix chickens? Are they ok outside? Too cold? I moved them into a super large dog crate out on my back porch. Although sheltered from most wind- there is no heat. I can put a heat lamp on them though. :D It DID reach freezing last night. It was 33 at 8am even.

Congrats on your sale! Sometimes there is just one that doesnt fit with you flock. Some of these young boys just have not developed any finesse lol! Hope you have a good hatch. My only laying hen quit and just started again... Deciding if i should hold off or try and hatch a few more :)

They are 10 weeks old, so they should be fine outside. I have not had heat for them for quite a while now but they were in the garage.
