Thanks for all the bamboo Molly!

And Jason, I think I owe you my son as an indentured servant for all your work!
(I couldn't fit DH & one of the clumps all in the same shot)

But we got it all unloaded and planted already (and by me, I mean DH

Who those are huge! Looks fabulous too!

Hey Jason, okay here they are: Sorry for taking so long....

BTW for those you who are curious. These eggs are from the offspring of a Crele Penedesenca hen covered by a Cream Legbar Rooster. The second picture is of the pullet that laid these eggs when she was younger.

Laura, you should be getting some of these beauties from Amelia in a couple of months. : )
They are nice looking eggs for sure.

I am glad you made it all the way back ok. they look good after that trip.

to go with Deann's photo of CL x pene cross eggs, here's Amelia's latest portrait, officially 19 weeks old today:

and just for the heck of it, here is the lovely Ethel, one of my cuckoo marans, who are now 30 weeks old & still not laying -- BUT she did a bit of a squat today for the first time, so maybe they're close! she's perched on my leg, hoping for a handout of treats:

can't wait for eggs!!

Amelia is so pretty

Food nerd alert! I used 'all meat' from the protein source to make a more fair comparison. Of course breast meat has less iron in it that these samples.

Meat Source | Iron | Protein

Turkey | 14% | 41g
Chicken | 9% | 40.5g
Goose | 23% | 41g

Chicken egg | 6% | 8.6g * sample was Horizon Organic egg. lower in cholesterol than duck
(jumbo size 63g)

Duck egg | 15% | 9g *also slightly higher in calcium than chicken
(jumbo size 70g)

Used this http://caloriecount.about.com/

I found this rather eye opening in a way. The protein levels were pretty on par BUT if you are looking for dietary ways to consume more protein dense meats (so you can consume fewer meats over all) with a high iron content....I am thinking goose and duck eggs make sense for us because we are trying to consume less overall meat but boost our iron and protein intake (we eat a lot of iron rich veggies too).

Anyhow...food nerd alert. haha!

Thank you so much for the photos! Mine are almost three weeks old now, and it looks like I have three pullets! I think I have on of each of the Barnie x OEs too.

Next summer I will have the most amazing egg colors in my egg basket!
Yippeeee, I love this cross more and more every day!!! I have a 12 week cl/cp cross crested rooster. He is darn cute. Seriously thinking about keeping him, which means another pen... will it ever stop?

Hey everyone I need some help. Over Christmas my uncles sister in law who is a vet mentioned she has a patient with a problem. She has 20 peacocks and a few Icelandic ponies. She is an older women that is on the brink of having to go into assisted living. Her son hates peafowl and unhappy things happened to them when she last went into the hospital. So I'm looking for people who might be interested in adopting some on short notice. I don't have all the details, know when it might happen, or know what type of peas they are even.

If you know anyone that has always wanted peas but never did it and might be interested let me know. My ERM semi aunt in law is a great person who gets involved in rehoming a lot of animals and has a lot of heart. She always comes to Christmas menagerie of babies th animals she's caring for while they find a new home.

Bad picture but after getting home from seeing Deb and Molly. Molly you truly have a nice set up. even after all the rain.
I finally got a Crele penedesenca egg today. I have no idea which one laid it as I have 5 hens that all look way past ready lol.
My rooster seems to like all the hens so I am going to start trial hatching once I get a few more.
