This happened to us this summer when we processed our unwanted Roos. We just layed them down horizontal and didn't let the blood run out. This fall we held them upsidown until they bled out and it was much better. The blood coagulates so fast they need the gravity it seems.
so today I set some posts. Last night it got to 20 degrees at the new place. It also snowed again. Not much but was super fluffy like the rockies get.
My post holes where full of water and frozen darn near solid. I got my 4 corner posts up . ( Between loads of stuff and a few dump runs ( Thanks to the nice lady leaving me all her junk))
Anyways tomorrow more runs. I hope to dig the rest of the holes and set the rest of the posts. Then put the gate up.
Next week I want to put the no climb up and start working on the run next to it.
Then I can bring the chickens over and start working on the big fence that will go around the breeder coops/runs.
The gardens and the spot I will put the layer flock.
Hey there, been working on new coops the last two days. Finally finished my layer coop, another coop for my brahmas from Cheryl!, one for my MF leghorns, and then a bantam coop i picked up for free that needed some remodeling. Thread has been busy!
So, my wife cooked some of the chickens that I had butchered at New American Poultry? and it was a bit odd inside. I took some pics so they are a bit much if you aren't interested in looking into cooked chickens being torn apart. Wondering if this is normal to have so much "blood"?
The pictures don't really do it justice, but there is this very bright red, almost gelatinous substance almost like there was blood all over the place still? Has anyone ever seen that when cooking a chicken? Is it possible they didn't let them drain long enough? It was a bit unnerving and we hadn't seen anything like that before with any of our other processed chickens.
ok sounds good. Are you around anywhere today? I am moving and run building but my wife has to meet my parents in Folsom later maybe I can see what time and she could meet at the feed store?

If your citrus are in pots, try putting xmas lights on them, we do it every year and make sure to water them thoroughly today!
It's 28 out there now. I better bring the cactus gardens in the garage... that is if they survived last night... I've had them on the front porch close to house with an infrared lamp, but then the bulb burned out... can't figure out where to get a replacement bulb yet...

it was 26° here when i first got up, although it's "warmed up" all the way to 27 by now -- i half-expected to see little campfires in the coop, figuring the gang would have figured out a way to stay warm!
and just checked on Amelia -- more of the same, although she doesn't look as puffy -- but doesn't seem to have been eating much, etc. i think i need to rig up some kind of accommodation for her here in the house, in the bathroom -- even with a heatlamp on her, the garage is just too **** cold, and she doesn't have her friends to help keep her warm...
can you still hatch with Valbazine? I had to use Wazine the last time. all they had in stock. I need to re worm them now as I am moving them next week so they will stop laying anyways.
ok I have 4 crele eggs I need to put in the bator tomorrow or have someone test hatch. I would need more eggs IMO to fire the bator up. Hmmm what to do.
It is cold today, so I really do not want to do the yard and coop work that is on my list for today. I will probably wait until 3 pm or so.
I did get another colorful egg from my Dorkng AM today and yesterday I got a nice egg from my Blue Marans. Now I need the Partridge Penne pullet and my other EE to start laying.
The green egg is very large. Since Dorking AMs lay big eggs, I hope my Dorking Marans, Dorking Reds and the Dorking Australorp all lay big eggs too. I expect to have eggs from them in a month.(note to self, get a nest box into their hutch).
