If you keep the chick separated, you do not need blue Kote. It is for active bleeding.

I'd only worry about the blue kote if the other chicks are picking at her and then I'd probably separate her instead. The blue kote is an antiseptic, but the vetericyn is better (IMO and my vet's).

I'm so sorry about your chick! Poor thing!

Thanks guys! I was thinking to cover up the 'red' so they would be less inclined to nip at her. Only sometimes to they show interest. They are in my office so I can keep a pretty close eye. I will separate her if it comes to that but I will watch close for now. Some Vetericyn for her later.

This is my son trying to hide how proud his is of his bantam Wyandotte roo, "Tickie". I love it when kids try to hide a huge grin. <3






My son LOVED this bird and bought him to show and start his own show flock. Not knowing much about poultry color genetics, the only hens my son had produced unshowable colors.

We found him a young, but suitable mate (another white). Welp, a family of bobcat moved in and wiped out my boys' show birds in nothing flat - all except for this roo's mate. We lost him just before she starting to lay.

I feel awful because, while my kids do the animal chores themselves, it was me who left the coop door open.

I'd like to help him find a really good replacement for his roo. Does anyone know where I can get a high quality WHITE BANTAM WYANDOTTE roo?

Just got caught up! Thank you all so much for the lovely welcomes I can't wait until our chicks get here! I've been so tempted to get a few from the feed store to make waiting easier, haha. I'm not going to, though. I'm really excited to start building the coop, too, but have to wait for payday. Rats!

I would love to get feedback on King Feed Vs Nurtrena.   Does anyone here have experience with one or the other, or better yet... both?

I have no experience with King Feed, but I swear by Nutrena All Flock. I've tried other feeds (hate "Farmers Best" even the meat bird mix, all purpose, and dual purpose) and my mixed flock does the best with Nutrena All Flock. Not always easy to find, but a local feed store now stocks it due to customer requests and recommendations. It's a pellet formulation, not crumbles.

The only thing I wish Nutrena would change is to add some animal protein to it, but since All Flock is suitable for mixed flocks with geese in 'em, perhaps that's the reason for not including it. I dont think so, really - the advertising on the bag leads me to believe it's a markering ploy.

I manage to get them some animal protein in kitchen scraps, though. My flock is at its best when it gets All Flock, with crushed oyster shell on the side, free choice.

Thanks. I can get Nutrena and Purina all flock feeds. Nutrena is over $3 more for the same amount. The crumbs are larger, seems to be less powder. But $3 + more dollars...I wondered if the significant cost increase is worth it. I mean after 6 bags - I could have had another bag of Purina...

I'm sorry for your son's loss, you can see the joy on his face. I'd help if I could, but I have no wyandottes. You might check with PapaBrooder, he has quite a variety of birds. He may have them.

I just started using this as well. Chickens love it
