The cute little ducks just reminded me of my childhood. I didn't post to argue about duckling bonding. I agree it depends on the breed, age, how many you have and especially how much time you spend with them.
I would be devastated if something happened to one of our geese. I am less bonded to our ducks now since there are so many of them. But we only have 2 geese. So they are speciallllll to us.
Thanks for the input! I definitely see the difference between the slope of our duckling's forehead/beak and yours. Your ducks are so lovely! And I appreciate the input on duck behavior. It's okay if they end up being skittish. I was able to hold them a bit under my hair and they seemed to calm down, so maybe doing that will help them get to know me? The chicks we got a few days ago are already so much friendlier than they were! They've come a long way. The ducks will be in the house another few weeks at least, so who knows?
Everyone hatching chicks and ducklings... so exciting! I hope we get there someday. We picked up two ducklings at Tractor Supply today. Not sure what they are.
I posted on the duck forum. I figure they're probably Pekin or Buffs (I don't really know much about ducks, so sorry if those are silly guesses) but the way they stand up so much had me thinking (wishing!) runners. We'll see I guess! I have them in with the chicks for now, but I'm sure we'll move them on their own soon. I think they're four days old. They're pretty (VERY) nervous around us, I hope they warm up to us.
The girls (Week old EEs) had their first trip outside today! It was so cute. Now they're cuddling with the new duckling friends.
Oh, now I want ducks again. Darn you guys. Too many cute duckie pictures to resist. I had mascovey a few years ago. I raised them a ducklings and then let them live in our pond with the wild mallards and the visiting Canadian geese. I would call them from the house and Poco (black one) would fly home until she (yes poco turned out to be a girl) got too heavy and then she would walk LOL. Here are a couple of pictures of them and their wild feathered friends.

With fewer ducks- it could really improve their skittishness. After another week or so you will see them start shaping out more. Mine starting looking more runner like around week 2-3 or so. I can't wait to watch them as they grow. Congrats!

OMG, I am exhausted. I just finished the last of bathing 25 chickens for this weekend. The last five were silkies, so they also had to be blown dry.............
I am SO glad I am finished. Tomorrow I just have to pack up and make the 3.5 hour drive to coop-in. I can't tell you how good the hotel in beautiful downtown Fresno is starting to look. It will mean I'm DONE! And as my schoolteacher DH always says......................turkeys are done, people are finished............but believe me, I am DONE.

So pretty! What sweet looking girls. My aunt raised a Muscovy (well three, not sure what happened to the other two) named Precious who turned out not only to be male, but a guard duck. He would fly out and attack joggers and bikers passing by on their road! Poor Precious, he ended up having to live with the chickens.
Zooweemama - Thank you so much for all the information!! I'll make sure to post pictures in another few weeks (let's be honest, they're adorable, it will probably be sooner
