California - Northern

Ooooh! Exciting!!! We want some of those, too!!!!
I got them on an auction and the guy was very cool to talk to. He got the flock from an Amish gentlemen friend that just called them his black and white chickens (didn't really realize what he had- but had 100s of them) so he took some then bred them to standard for the last 3 years

He's still auctioning them on Ebay

AaaAAnnd... I've got a whole batch of eggs going in the bator tomorrow:
...
8 buckeyes

Pat, will you be breeding Buckeyes? I still get requests for them, so need someone to refer people to.

Novaman I guessed your avatar

Thank you!

Yes Jason, 12 hatched. The last egg does not have a pip so is probably a quitter. Along with the pullet, I now have 13 Bresse.

Chicken Dinner 1 to 13? I should save out a Quad for breeding though.

Congrats! I'm following the adventures of all of you that are raising Bresse with interest. One of you really should have a get together and taste test.

That would be fun! More people involved in the taste test would mean more input on how the Bresse compare with our other breeds raised for meat. In the taste test that we did last fall, I preferred the Langshan meat over the Silver Penciled Plymouth Rock and Cornish X meat but Monet and my farm friend's family preferred the SPPR meat. We are planning on breeding both along with the Bresse then doing another taste testing next fall/winter. We are going to try to raise all 3 breeds as close to the French standard as we can. It will be interesting to see how they compare. We may raise a few Marans, too. I've heard that their meat is excellent!

Congratulations on the bresse Ron!

I dont knkw if anyone is in my area, but ill be taking a bunch of laying hens to the Epperson Auction small animal swap meet at 9am. Ill be there until around lunch time. :)

I'm having a strange day up here today. Growers market opened today and I got to sleep in until the dogs demanded breakfast. We've done growers market for 13 years and this would have been our 14th. It is really strange not to be there but we just can't deal with the management anymore. I work to hard to have customers insulted and to be associated with the treatment some people receive. We are changing over to another market so it's back to building our customer base, an extra 80 miles driving each weekend and at least an extra 4 hours per market and a shorter market season. A search on YouTube fot Grants Pass Growers Market shows a little of the attitude but she knew she was being filmed and was on her best behavior. Done whining now.

Maybe it's the smaller number compared to other brooding but these wyandottes are so calm and quiet. They still spook everyonce in a while but compared to all the hatchery stock that has gone through my laundry room, they are great. Eric get that glazed over look when I talk chicken but with the BLRW he actually listens and comments. He even took a few pictures-all the same pullet-but pictures just the same. If I could find another breed he really liked-chicken math.
