So sorry the little one didn't make it. The devotion you gave to her is more than it's own mother would have done. She was given the best care and love for her short time here.
I do not. To make a long discussion short, as near as I can calculate it, Mareks prevents 1 to 2% of death from Mareks Cancer. Without the shot, 5% die of it. With the shot, 3% die from it. The inoculation does not stop them from getting Mareks, it only helps prevent the cancer from killing the chicken at 1 to 2 years old. Thanks Ron: I have been using Chrome. I will try IE. Pssst. Do you vaccinate for Mareks? If so, where do you get it?
Quote: It was in the twenty dollar range at TSC. I bough a bag of it last year and I will probably have the same bag next year.
It has saved so many chicks!
I live in Northern Ca In Redding, anyone close by Redding Ca?
My DD was so many things that she was allergic too, that the program for her was 5 years! A new allergist took over from the original and started up the program again from the beginning. She started at age 16 and stopped after 3 years-- a bit more than a year on the first program and a bit less than 2 on the second program. It still helped her because she was very allergic. Poor girl.
I had a 14 mos old hen die from Mereks tumors and she was vaccinated as a day old chick. I am leaning towards not vaccinating the chicks that I am hatching this year.I do not. Most breeders are going for resistance.
Another fact, borne out from research, is that you can have mixed inoculated and not inoculated chickens in your flock. Mareks is like coci it is everywhere.

Don't know if an hour and a half away counts as close, but I am up in Yreka. There are quite a few Shasta and Tehama County folks on here, though.
Thanks Ron. My spring allergies have already started and I am miserable. Might have to break down and start them this year.
Hi,
