Do you dream of Chickens too?
I was expecting two boxes of eggs on Wednesday. On Tuesday night, I had a dream that I showed up at the post office. The worker came walking out with a box in one hand and in the other they were holding a brown paper grocery sack. They had the sack as far away as they could hold their arm and ropes of runny egg were dripping out of the bag.

Wednesday morning I received two lovely boxes of well packed eggs!

The morning we were expecting our McMurray shipment I dreamed that a Post Office in the midwest called and said the box was silent and all the birds were dead. My phone ringing woke me out of that dream. It was our local post office calling to say the chicks were there. All 27 made it safely

I have a Hovabator but I find I am still fiddling with the temp a wee bit. It bounced between 97-99 (97 at night). I am turning the turner here shortly.
Mine runs from heater stops at 101.5 and turns on at 98.5 I am getting about 75% hatch rate from my dark eggs and 85-90 with the white eggs I have set. Shipped eggs not so well.
Wow, this week of midterms has been kicking my butt and it took me quite a while to make my way through all the posts. Yesterday I tried to candle some of the eggs but couldn't quite tell what I was looking at, only my serama egg was clear so that got tossed. Today I looked up egg development online and saw what the size of the chicks in the egg and thought since I couldn't see anything yesterday I thought maybe something had happened and the eggs had all gone bad since I didn't really see much besides some blood vessels. I decided to try again and I saw movement! Since my flash light isn't the best I only candled some of the lighter eggs and I found embryos in 5 of 6 of the light ones!

I swear 14 days away has never felt so far. Mind you some of the reptile eggs I hatch out can take anywhere from 60 to 105 days! I guess because 2 weeks is not too far in the future I feel more impatient and it feels longer.
I am glad I am out of school Congrats

Jason, I will no longer have that glazed look in my eyes when someone hands me eggs on the side of the road. Tuesday my new Brinsea 380 cabinet incubator arrived. I've loaded one of three shelves so far, with 101 eggs!

If I really have issues, there's a stationary shelf on the bottom intended for hatching................of course that's what the three Genesis are now going to take care of.

It rained all day yesterday. Good, because that means I can plant things tomorrow. I bought a lot of Cottage Farms and Roberta's Unique Gardens items and they've been delivered by UPS yesterday and today.

I am SO excited! The hardest thing is trying to figure out where I can plant stuff so the feathered folk don't devour 'em. There's only so much space in my fenced garden area. Even that could be dicey, as there are certain young ladies who have spread the word about how to get into the garden and then into the house.

Today, the usual two hens - Alice and Belinda - came in, followed shortly by Samantha, my very first GrandChick ( who is most certainly a gramma herself). Samantha left a pretty green egg next to Alice's small, cream-colored egg in the nest box in the office. What with Beth's egg in the laundry bin and Punkin's egg in the dog bed, I had a nice egg & mushroom omelet this afternoon and didn't even have to go outside to gather eggs from the coop.

But Ii did; ten more eggs laid appropriately in the coop nest boxes. But not any sneakily hidden in various places around the yard. :(

Cayugas don't seem to hide their eggs much unless they wanna hatch 'em. Two duck hens are broody in the silliest places. Ever put a wheelbarrow "up" against a wall so it doesn't fill with rain water? One nest is behind that. She has built a remarkable nest there, with twigs and small branches. The other duck has nested in a cubby hole under a folded up lawn chair leaning against some concrete blocks. You cant see her at all. The only clue is a sibilant hiss emanating from the Secret Spot when another duck pokes his or her head into the opening for some ducky reason.

Well, I do have room now. PJ's some time over the weekend? I'd say tomorrow but today is our anniversary and we're going out to dinner tomorrow.
