Beautiful Birds! What a gorgeous group you have there. How I wished we lived closer! How much does a good silkie cost? can you tell high quality at chick age? I didn't know venting hurt them but I don't mind having a roo or two around.

Oh, sad. Hopefully it has not been too hard to find them homes. My kids are going to be sad if we have roosters to rehome.I can't.. I'm going to have to find them new homes when they start crowing. Hopefully I have a few more months.... My hubby keeps trying to convince me we need a mini goat, so he doesn't have to mow the lawn.![]()

Price depends on a lot of things. I have paid anywhere from $10. to $125. depending on age and quality. Some go up from there even depending on the breeder and if you are wanting top show quality. If you buy young the cost is usually a lot less. Young boys are usually a bargainBeautiful Birds! What a gorgeous group you have there. How I wished we lived closer! I have three beautiful Partridge boys right now that I am asking $15-$25 for .Chicks are usually , in the day old to few week old age ,$5-10. As far as quality goes... well, the better stock they come from usually the nicer the chick. There are a few things obvious from birth like correct number of toes and foot feather, correct comb. I actually love the roosters. They always end up being my favorites. If I lived where it was easier to keep a lot of them I would be over run
As stated on numerous threads . Kelly is the chick sexing expertLizanne - both are Easter eggers. First is a pullet, 2nd is a cockerel.
x2The first one looks like a pullet to me.
The second one has red in the wings--That is an EE rooster color pattern so I think that one is a cockerel.

I looked on their website and couldn't even find their silkies to see quality. You know Fort Bragg where Feathersprings is located is a lovely drive west on Hwy 20! I think it would take you a couple hours. Is anyone familiar with Belt Hatchery and if they are reputable? They service the local feed store in my area.
They are a large fowl breed, probably around 7 pounds. If you look at the birds to the left in the picture (next pen over), those are adult bantam barred rocks, a two pound bird. Their eggs are very blue with no tinge of green to them, a true blue. They also start to lay a very large egg very quickly (once they start laying of course). Keep in mind, free ranging a white bird can be a target to a predator. You'd have to be certain there is lots of cover for them to duck into.

I'm not sure where you are located, but I almost always have silkie chickes/adults available as well.
