Haven't posted in a while but I thought I would update anyway TONS of fun stuff going on here.

I found out I am intolerant of duck eggs. Traded my trio of Cayuga and my beige mutt duck for 3, seven month old hens (Silver wyandotte and 2 australorps), as well as 6 young pullets. One is a Swedish flower, the rest are Maran/EE/OE/Swedish flower mixes. I am now up to 23 birds. None have laid anything for 2 weeks now. One RIR laid about 10 eggs steady but quit, I got one egg from the Black sumatra, and my steady eddy blue girl quit as well. Not sure whats up because they are all fat and healthy, free ranging and enjoying life. Oh well

We also have 10 new additions...Kids!

We had 3 does kid this year. 3/23, 4/9 and 4/14. Triplets, Triplets and Quads!

Urgent help needed!!*********

Ok, Ruby, my RIR that I thought had a broken wing--- well, I took her out & unwrapped her because her legs still don't seem strong. She let both wings out with ease, but her right leg is pretty limp & when I try to put it under her she falls forward The other leg is fine. The right leg is flacid. I can't see any trauma or feel anything that doesn't feel right. I took her out & have her ina crate in the garage. She's been eating well, but what now??? How do I splint her leg the correct way?? She's so sweet. I want to help her!!

Sorry, but that sounds like Mareks.

I see that you posted later thinking it's Mareks as well. As to whether to cull or not, if she's not eating or drinking, I would put her down. You can take her to UC Davis and they will euthanize her for you and perform the necropsy.

Has anyone ever had a chicken eat glass? I was cleaning off the side of the goat stalls just now and I found a pile off poop with a bunch of broken glass in it. I'm not even sure where they found the glass. It looks like tempered auto glass which I know we haven't broken any.

Haven't lost any birds in a few months so I really am a little shocked that they passed it.

Not glass, but I had a friend that had a hen that died from eating a screw and it perforated her insides. She thought she was an internal layer until she had the necropsy done and it came back a screw was the problem.

Well, this is what hatched here this morning. A Drum Horse colt. 3/4 Clydesdale and 1/4 Gypsy horse. He hatched out at about 125 pounds.

I do still have lots of chicks...
I have 2 "Fuzzants" I think they are Blue Copper Marans. but could be OE
I found a Sultan in there today.
I separated out the Gold Cuckoo Marans, there are several "pairs" And I am hatching out eggs I orders, if you wanted unrelated pairs. Should be in 2 more weeks.
There is a little of everything out there. I have mine and my Biz partner's eggs then eggs from friends and neighbors too.
PM me for breeds, prices and possible meet ups and delivery.

I am in central CA, near Fresno and I am very tired...200 chicks, a baby draft horse and a 2nd baby horse on the way is very tiring.

Yup- snow. We have several inches sticking:-( Just checked the chicks in the garage brooder and the heat lamp is doing well. Our garage is not heated unfortunately.... What's your temps there in hangtown?

not as cold as you but mine are in a carport under the heat lamp. 34 last I checked.

A friend of mine has GCM chicks hatching today from a line she has been working on, and I have reserved a couple of rooster chicks for my girls
