Those are super cute! Here's a couple of the ones I got from you, these are bigger than the rest does anything shout cockerel to you?

I think the darker legged chick is a pullet and the other a rooster. So far with this mix all of the roosters have gotten white wing feathers mixed in with the buff colored feathers. Most of the pullets have stayed a solid buff color or solid buff with some partridge penciling. In this last hatch I do have quite a few white chicks which is something new. I love the look of the white EEs.

LOL!!! I see that we were #9 most active thread yesterday, too!

At some point this year I will. I have some about 6 weeks now but I doubt they will last. I have one Barnie at 9 weeks. But I won't have more of those. I'm going off comb and feather sexing so you know slow maturing roos can sneak in there. ( sneaks away from petrock) so far the Barnie has little comb and is not showing streamers but it is a bit early for that.

I go to novato frequently if you can pick up there. My guys are handled but I don't have a 3 year old that always has a chick on its lap or anything.

I just need them to be no longer heat dependant. My girls range in age from 10 to 14 weeks, so was hoping to find some the same age. I guess it's not that important.I would prefer a Maran, but figured if I found a barnie close, I would settle (especially if it was a Blue Double Laced) I was just wanting to add some dark brown eggs to my flock.
Handling isn't super important....the girls we have now were never handled.....so we are having to put in a ton of work to get them to the handling point. I was hoping to avoid all that.....

Ok my ignorance on hatching terms are about to be known. I know what an external pip is and what it looks like. Things I am unclear on are internal pips and what zipping actually means.
Internal pipping....................broke into the air cell, but haven't yet pierced the egg shell. You can only see this by candling.
Zipping....................when they actually start extending the pipped placed around the shell (like a zipper). Once it's complete, they can kick off the top of the shell in order to escape.

From what I've read, ducks/geese can take up to 3 days to hatch from the first pip. They rest a long time between stages.

Good luck!

The internal pip is breaking the membrane and hopefully sticking the beak into the air cell. That is when you hear them peeping in the shell.

Zipping is when they use the egg tooth to cut the shell off.

Internal pip happens a day or so before external pip

Zipping happens up to 24 hours later for chickens and 48 hours later for Ducks.

Are you excited?!

Ahh ok! I will chill out. Was getting really worried!

Excited...and a little sick with worry lol. I'm also sad because my little gosling may have died yesterday. I have all my digits crossed that she was just cramped in her shell. I really wanted that gosling out of ALL the eggs I am hatching.

It is exciting to see all the moving eggs and to hear that peep in the one was neat. :D

There are 3 that I think may be white, and the brown one. So in the last pic you think the boy is on the left or right?
