Aw I love these pictures!! I feel so lucky my sweetheart loves the chickens, too. Sometimes he'll go get his favorite out of the coop when he gets home from work and bring her into the house. She sits on his lap while he relaxes at the computer.

Sweet image! Does she just hang out? Della would be on the keyboard lol


Cute tidbit - for some reason our weirdo Salmon Favorolle roo Balthazar seems to really love our Polish roo, Iorek. He follows him around and they're buddies. Today Balthazar was preening Iorek's mohawk and Iorek, in turn, was preening Balthazar's beard. So cute!! I wish I would have named them Legolas and Gimli.

Deerling's comment about her Banties being not really a part of the rest of the flock made me think. I don't have them because I wanted BIG fluffy chickens and had read that Banties sometimes need their own coops. I plan to have a retired hen pen as my girls age out of productivity and Della is a problematic layer and I would never get rid of her because of it so I totally get having chickens that don't have an obvious use just because they make you happy. So is that why people have Banties? Just because having pretty little mini chickens makes you smile? (which is an absolutely valid reason) Or is there something I am missing.

It's like quail, I didn't know why people hatched them unless it was to set them free in their yard but now I know that their eggs have added benefits and that people raise them for meat too. Educate me please

I kind of like the smaller eggs the Bantams provide.

Yeah, it probably wouldn't stand out so much if not for the white chick with black skin. It always looks like a messy butt! When I do my nightly patrol for messy bottoms, she always gets picked up, then "Oh" and put back down, LOL
