California - Northern

I meant to take a few pictures but Last weekend I set 4 corner posts. Today I dug some more holes and got some more 5" x 8ft lodge poles. Tomorrow will get some more concrete and set these other 5 posts. I need 5 more posts and a gate. Oh plus I need to build the coop. This is for the layer flock. I am gonna fence in the entire area so they can range in there as well.

The run for these is 36 feet long x 16 feet wide on the north side and 24 feet on the south side. The plan is to cover this one as well. The total fenced in area for ranging is yet to be determined as there will be hundreds of blueberries around there as well and a small fruit tree orchard. This soil in this spot is super good and I am in great mental debate as to wether to put my garden there instead and build the run somewhere else

Oops, eight brooders, I forgot about the geese.

You currently have 3 OE pipped and one OE chick out, it's dark...........not completely fluffed out yet. Nothing yet on the Emps, but the hatch is due tomorrow. And your dark layers seem to run late.

Quote: My marans hatch right on time, but the penedesenca I hatched for Jason before seemed to run 22 days. I wasn't sure if it was because they were shipped or what originally. But when I set some of his own eggs, I got the same result. I believe the eggs that Ron hatched were the same way.

So, I won't be concerned if they do nothing tomorrow. (although I hate late chicks, it's stressful for me).

Quote: Thanks guys. Yes she totally hatched on her own. She pipped last night and I left her alone and she hatched later this afternoon. Only opened the bator when I saw her tummy was not right after she had fully hatched. She all but exploded from the egg too after zipping. It was crazy. I tried to keep the temp stable- it was doing pretty good until last night it had a spike to 102. Her tummy seems to be getting smaller. That's good right?
The same thing happened with my incubator.. The temp went up way too high during hatching. Some of mine hatched early, some got stuck in the egg, and some came out with yokes not fully absorbed. It was a mess! But everything worked itself out
