If they don't hatch, I'll try again! Megan, It's so nice to have you back on here chatting! I missed you!

Aww Debi! That makes me feel good! Thank you and I've missed you too!!
Hehe thanks everyone

Sorry the picture posted so big - I posted it from my phone, didn't realize until now, looking at the thread from my computer, that it would post so huge!
Great picture!
I KNOW! Fairfield would often get about a week maximum of hot and then we would get the cool from the fog that comes inland. The nice cool evening breeze would blow in. In Roseville, it is hot and sticky with not a breath of air. Although I like Roseville better. Fairfield was starting to get too many gangs and other such undesirables. I wish I was rich enough to run an AC for the chickens, but I barely run it for me!

I have one Basque that hatched out of two. One was not fertile. I am waiting to see if it is a he or a she. And I have one OE Penedesenca something mix.
You are going to love the Basques!! They are amazing!
You know, I probably over use emoticons because I am always misunderstood. I am very sarcastic and I am ALWAYS joking. They are somewhat required in a forum when the written word does not necessarily convey the intended meaning.
Lol I use a lot of exclamation points. Even with that I still put my foot in my mouth way too often haha

Thanks...I'm not sure if any of the chicks still have it as their 'normal' state..it's so hard to tell with 15 chicks?!
Mine poop all different ways. It's hard when I have them out on my deck and I'm barefoot stepping in the stuff! It is fun to see them running around though.

I took the Australorps and Black Penedesencas out to the front yard today--they stayed in a pen with panels that folds up. The Black Penes could fit through the squares so they did not stay in very long. The Australorps were in for an hour while we ate dinner and cleaned out their brooder. I then moved the Fogel RIRs out there and they were out for a couple of hours.

They are all very happy now. I will get pictures and a video posted tomorrow.
I just bought two Australorps yesterday!! It was a birthday present to myself. Then this evening when I took my older chicks out of their cage, on the deck, and one RIR flew down below the deck, the golden retriever staying with us wanted to play with her. The dog has a soft bite but the girl didn't make it. There was no blood. Sad day. My daughter felt very bad, but it was my fault for not checking my chicks when the dog was out. Sad lesson learned. They will go in there coop this week.

I am sorry you lost a chicken!

Congratulations on gettin Australorps. They are great chickens.

Morning gentles.

I try and remember on the heritage threads I always try and remember the fussieness comes from a passion for their birds. I just take a deep breath and duck. But I don't comment on them much anymore. I just follow certain posters.

As for by being shut down if something happened. It seems to be fully monitised and fully sellable. I'm sure it would just get passed into someone else's hands. As long as it was done with respect for the mods not a lot would change.

It is actually great to see a site that is making money and supports the community. You know if one day the main person wakes up and says " done" it won't die. Some of my favorite gaming sites died when they were sold that way.

I'm debating going to the small animal exchange next weekend if mario can keep the extra work down to 1 day. But all j have right now are roosters chicks and quail. Do people usually have silkies or quail?

Yellow House had Quail and Quail egg last month. There were no Tuxedo Quail however....

Put an add in the Sacramento CL with what you will have and then meet them at the exchange. It is also good to have information pamphlets and business cards.

I nee to get busy....

So I went to the feed store today to get some more chick food, and I was drawing a blank on Cocci. I couldn't remember the name or the name of the drug to treat it.

I asked the somewhat snooty young girl at the counter if they had any of the medication that comes IN the medicated feed. I was getting a non-medicated feed, and was just curious if they had any if they suddenly develop a problem with Cocci. It would be nice to go where I could get some locally.

She said, "OH yeah, that is the antibiotic over there. Dur something...." as in Duramycin.

Ugh! If it weren't for this website we would have some seriously ill /dead chickens based on the sound advice obtained from the feed store.
Don't ya just love feed store advise? They are ALWAYS wrong. Corid is what you want. (or Sulmet)

Quote: I hope you get what you are needing for your flock. I hatched some wellies, needing a good pullet, and of course - the 2 that hatched are cockerels.

Hey, Shantih! A few of these eggs have a purplish bloom on them! The prettiest one was one of the broken ones, though.

I'm not sure if you remember the winning Langshans from the Stockton show but those were from this breeders stock. Here are a couple of pics of them. These are not my birds but I wish that they were!

Stunning!

No chicks were harmed in the making of this picture

Great picture! Love the drool. That pup is just too cute for words.

Quote: I hatched every egg Trisha sent me, but one. Only 1 quitter. Good luck with your hatch. My 2 blue barnie cockerels are doing their job with my 2 pure hens now. Got some under my broody ready to hatch on the 16th. And 2 of my blue pullets are laying now as well - and fertile too.

And a bunch of pure barnies in the grow out area of my coop. I'm barnie loaded right now!

Quote: I ship wrapped in bubble wrap on their sides and I've never had an issue shipping this way. I do notice the new trend is to ship with the large side up. Either way, my goal is for the eggs to move as little as possible.

No kidding. We are in the process of putting a pool in our yard, and it's going to have a beach entry. I wonder if the girls will go into it a little ways on the really hot days.
Chickens cannot swim, so be careful. I'd also worry about them drinking the pool water.

Thanks!

I do not need one! Amy Beth probably does need one though....
I was thinking of a few geese as livestock protection. some of there poops are as big as dogs though and they are noisy so????
Yeah Ewwww! I don't live in Palm Springs (where my parents used to live) for a reason! I will take the 5 degrees..... lol

Holy cow $7 a piece! I can't remember the last watermelon I bought. I don't usually eat them myself. Plus I only had 12 hens at the time. Chunks of mellon for entertainment goes farther. :) I have a bunch of icky meal worms now too that have lots of beetles in the drawers. That was another BYC, "Hey I could do that" moment. And now I have icky beetles in 3 drawers. Some have such active colonies of meal worms they the devour stuff like watermelon rinds and things.

ETA: Used the non-word "ick" too many times. Took one out. That is what happens when you sit here and have too many beers without dinner!
people often say when it is 100 or 105 what is the difference ? Well there is a difference when you go to places like Redding or Bakersfield in the summer. you can feel it on your skin
This evening I struggled with the small green house kit I bought a couple of months ago. Somebody wondered why I was constructing a greenhouse so late in the season; I should plant directly in the ground NOW.

Ummm. I have poultry. The greenhouse is to protect plants from chickens, ducks, turkeys and geese, not low temperature.

(It Is an experiment.)
why are you struggling with it? putting it together ? I am going to build a greenhouse this fall out of corrigated roofing. The smoke color see through stuff.

the fog is back here in sonoma co, after what has felt like weeks of that hot dry wind, which has been withering all my new plants -- feels like such a relief to have cool moist air again.

and today is day #26 for my poor broody trying to hatch the araucana eggs -- beginning to think it just isn't going to happen. am inquiring about whether there are any chicks available for sale that i could slip under her...

Will do but I generally prefer to stand up for myself or someone that does not know as much and turn the tide on the offender
