Kim dropped off some eggs from her SG Dorking Hen that had no eggs develop. This time they all developed!

Kim did something to get fertility up....

I candled a couple and made a movie.

The Dick Horstman eggs hatched!

I have 7 H RIR chicks and 1 Partridge Rock. I had to go count them--I have 8 RIRs...

That's better than 0 out of 30!  I'm going to contact the breeder but hate to tell him.  He's a very nice guy but we happened to ship the eggs during that heat wave so the poor things probably didn't have a chance.

Ya I know how you feel. My first set of jubilees only one hatched out of 15 and that was painful. Debating trying them again. I think fertility is better now though so we will see.

Holy things I can't say on byc.

The off switch on the incubator heater broke last night. It was up to 104 this morning.
I don't know how long it was but the eggs were very hot. Th older eggs are probably OK because one chick hatched in there from a 6 egg so it was not killing everything. But I bet the eggs I set for a customer and the eggs I got from juststruttin last week are toast.

Mario pulled the whole incubator apart and is fixing things. I have 2 incubators tetrised out the wazoo and all my carefully seperated eggs by breed and line for my new blood marans stock jammed into one hatcher.

Oh my, I hope some make it for you.

I had a few 104 temp spikes in my bator while trying to get things leveled out when first using it - still had all eggs hatch. It did 103 the other day but not long enough to heat the eggs up.

Are you using a electronic thermostat? It sure looks like that is in an awkward place to fix, yuck. I know the Sportsman has two wafer thermostats because when they break they break stuck on.... I have a few spare electronic thermostats lying around...

I am glad you had extra bators to put those eggs in, hopefully your big one will be fixed up soon.

Go get a plastic plumbing piece from osh or lows. It is thick enough to work better then a toilet tube.


There is a led flashlight that is 400 lunes on amazon for less then 10 bucks. Just pop the plumbing piece on and you can see everything if you keep the batteries up.
