California - Northern

I had this happen. I sold a guy a few straight run chicks $12.00, he ended up with roosters. He called me over four months later to tell me he ended up with roosters and would like to swing by and exchange them for two hens the same size... I said, you want to buy two hens...NO, exchange! REALLY !
He made me fell like I Purposely picked him out day old rooster.... I'm pretty sure I offered him auto sex breeds. He just didn't want to spend the money.
I ended up giving him his $12 back and sent him on his way. For every hen I hatch I get a rooster. Do they have any idea how many roosters we end up with...just say'in!
Well, I will take roosters back. Most people won't process and I get to look at and evaluate my Marans boys. But I don't give them hens. This is the first year I have had any sexed anything so there has been some confusion.

Speaking of roosters Molly, do you know who are boys on your jubs yet? Dh looked at me like I was crazy when I said we were bringing IN a roo, lol.

Mario tried to rewire while sleepy last night ( wire undid and was not heating) and appearently blew the new unit. Thank goodness they are so cheap. But no new incubator for me till later in the week!

That reminds me of a Family Story. One of my Uncles was rebuilding an engine and of course trying to get it done quickly. He had it all back together and could not remember if he had torqued the bolts on the Crank Shaft. He had to take the engine back out and recheck it all.

I hope the new one goes in correctly for you!

Thank You Molly!

I did the minimum amount of work yesterday and watched Superman!

I feel a lot better now.
That's what we did for Father's Day, too! DH chose to see Superman over anything else. Our family took up almost a whole row at the theater. There was a lot of action and I personally thought that some of the fight scenes were too long but then I like seeing the story line better than the action in most movies. Since this movie had both a good story and great action scenes, it was a win/win!

Hi peeps!

Cograts on smooth transitions for chicks!

LOL on pregnancy brain that makes you forget that night is coming and it's chilly....hope they are all perfect this morning

Those of us that have been there know what you mean.

Chiquita your customer story is unnerving. Hope the nut case chills out

We had a doe and fawn in our back yard yesterday too...super sweet except I can't grow a cherry tree with them around

Looking forward to Willa eggs and I think the two EEs may be on the bluer side too since they have pea combs.

In chicken news here Curly has devised a way of getting around that seems to work for him. He flies/scoots generally in the direction he wants to go. Spends a lot of time laying in the sun or shade depending on what he wants and, I have no idea how, but he gets himself up the ramp (6 inches wide) and into the coop which is 2 feet off the ground at night. If he were with full grown hens I might think they were tucking him under their wings and carrying him up there but he's in with 7 and 8 week olds. Almost worth investing in a video baby monitor. He is the opposite of coordinated so I'm fairly certain he must fall off a time or two but for the last four nights when I have gone out to put everyone to bed he is in there. Everyone else is roosting and he is in his nesting box all tucked in.

Had the nicest coop time yesterday with the little ones. I took canned corn in and sat with them. Willa is my shyest and she wouldn't take it from my hand but for once didn't grab and bolt and even pecked at my toenails a bit. Godiva the chocolate rock and Rosie one of the EEs bot took turns laying on my lap of their own volition letting me pat them. I honestly have come to believe that treatment centers, jails and long term care facilities of all kinds should have coops. It just stinking makes a person happy to hold a warm feathery thing and to watch them interact with people and each other. If I were running for Miss America it would be my platform

"Chickens for Wellness" I don't think you can be a married mother of 3 and still run though.

My colleague that took my cockerels is looking for a Cuckoo Marans breeder. Not sure but think he may be interested in other color varieties as well. Any of you have them??
