California - Northern

No chicken tv on this rainy day. At least we got the wire up and 1/2 the rocks around their yard before the storm flew in!
Very nice!!!

Me too!! Thanks :) Do you know of anybody up my way that has a Polish pullet or 2 to sell?
If you aren't set on the Polish, I have one cute splash laced red bantam Wyandotte pullet and 3 bantam buff Brahma pullets that are very mellow, especially the BBB pullets. They were 12 weeks old on June 20. I also have 1 yr. old BBB hens.

I live in GV too

I can see why you want to keep a son from him!

Interesting weather, it's actually raining here in Modesto.

It's raining here too. I thought they said most of it would stay north of Hwy 80

I hate doing my chores in the rain/mud, but at least it's not cold and blowing. I should be in pretty good shape today, I spend almost 8 hours yesterday doing poultry chores. DH is out of state this week, so I have to do all his part too. I think the only think I accomplish in the house yesterday is vacuuming and I did that about 9pm

Of course, it wasn't raining when I left for work this morning, so I didn't move the chicken food. Hope the tree keeps most of the rain off of it. 8 hours of poultry chores??! You have a full time job :) I'm sure it's more fun than my boring desk job though.

Quote: I was doing the stuff that DH isn't as thorough about, like scrubbing each waterer before refilling, etc. If I do that when he's around, he takes it as judging the way he does it, LOL Gotta protect those male egos,

Then I was sorting quail. The last batch are already laying eggs, so I needed to set them up into breeding groups and the extras into a "processing" pen.

Debs Flock....you have inspired me! I am going to enter my cheesecake in our fair at the end of July! I can't believe I am finally entering something. My family has been trying to get me to do this for years!

Good for you!!! Just do it!!! Are you going to be able to attend judging? That's where you learn so much. Just make sure you read the rules thoroughly, sometimes they are real sticklers. If it says enter half and you give them the whole thing, some judges will ding you for that.

If you need any pointers on competing, feel free to PM me. I've been competitive baking for almost 25 years,

It only takes one entry to go Best in Show!

ETA - I think I know the judge that will be at your fair............. she lives in Napa.

This is an actual "Cheesecake Contest" they do, so we will be there for judging. I am not sure how it is judged though. I couldn't find the scoring for it. My family keeps telling me I make the best cheesecake and have been trying to talk me into it.
I am also considering entering a chocolate porter cake....we will see how industrious I feel.
I am making Hot Pepper Jelly this week, and may throw it in last minute. Heck, if I am already making it anyway, why not save the best jar for the fair!

Quote: http://www.sonomacountyfair.com/docs/2013_EXHIBITOR_GUIDEBOOK.pdf The online entry deadline is coming up on the 28 (assuming Sonoma is your fair)
