Any ideas for getting the chickens to get up on the roost? I have put them up there and they jump back down. It is a 2x3, sanded to get all the splinters off.

They all crowd around the door and I literally have to shove their butts in the door to close it up at night.......?

Icelandics are the best at giving you that rainbow of babies! Colors, combs, crests, feathering...............there's not much they can't do. Including escape

The two little girls I have are almost identical except that one has a crest and the other has feathered legs.



This is the feathered leg "Rue" the other "Hattie" is never in one place long enough for me to get a pic. She is the MOST frenetic chicken I have. Her hatchmate cockerel I guess was even more so but he has moved on to a new home. Anyway their heads are both gold and their bodies are partridge looking. I wish I had more variety but there are always eggs to hatch right

My aunt is giving me some fertiles from her mixed pen for Beakface to sit on. I'll try to get them all under her Wed a.m.

Should I move her to a broody pen or just let her be?...The broody pen is the sick bay and Della is still there right now but I can have her out tomorrow

Your Signature Line was one of the reasons I looked into getting them and yep...Saturday night DH said "did you know some of your little chickens are out" not surprised it was the Icelandics but the Speckled Sussex was with them. I figures she may was well fly while she still can hoist her future fat fanny off the ground.

Ali I think just sticking them up there is the way to go somewhere along the line instinct and your doing that will click in their bird brains.

How do your chickens like the rain? When I came home today, 4 of them were "Dust" bathing

I forgot to share an interesting thing about the Pita Pinta hatch--one of the eggs that hatched is the biggest one I have ever hatched--I should have weight it, but it was well into Jumbo in size. They are hard to hatch and I did crack the top off of it. It was funny to see the chick walking around with that big half of a shell hanging off of its back side....

the older ones love it. my younger ones are in the coops

ahhhhh. Yes I was being dense. Rue is a character in the Hunger Games she is the youngest child in the games and she survives but staying in the tree canopy. It is also ah herb that grows in Iceland so there you go
