California - Northern

We went to Yosemite last year. Our first vacation in 7 years. While driving in to Wawona the car was telling us 116°! We went to get away from the heat and the blasted stuff followed us.

A restaurant without A/C sounds like my luck. I've also sat directly under a vent blowing really cold air, almost as bad. It was August and I had to get a sweatshirt out of the car! We had already ordered and they refused to let us change tables, needless to say, we never went back.

The wyandottes are feeling the heat more than most. They are spreading their wings for short periods. My old lady BR's have been through worse, just some open mouth breathing. Not to bad, since 2 weeks ago 68° was our high temp. for the day.

You have to be careful with the MistyMate, the ones you usually see on Amazon, etc are plastic nozzles and get terrible reviews. The ones at Costco are the upgraded stainless and brass. You can buy them directly from the MistyMate website and with shipping (Costco includes shipping), the price is about the same. But with Costco, you can walk into any warehouse and return anything at any time.

Literally one week ago today, it was 65 here and I thought about building a fire in the woodstove. The poor birds don't know what to do with themselves.

Thank you for the info! Oh my rescued chicken laid me an egg today, what a deal!
She is very happy to be "home".

She will lay a lot of eggs for you too

Hello NorCal friends!!! How has everybody dealing with this heat?! UUGGHH I spent most of the day spritzing the chickens & quail with water yesterday. They loved it!

QUESTION: I know flies are inevitable when dealing with the lifestyle we do--cuz it's stinky :) lol... anyway! I was wondering how everybody keeps the flies down????
Do you use a spray? What kind?
Do you use straw for the coop/run floor or something else?

I know most of you have had/have this issue on a regular basis so please tell me!!! I have chickens and quail in the yard & between all of them, there are flies everywhere. I have tried sticky tape, nasty stinky fly traps- bags & containers. They work, but they don't deter.
I'm about to flip out on some flies & I can't kill them all!! :barnie Tell me :)

I love de! I sprinkle it in the run , bed and poop tray. I looked it up Before I trusted the info a friend gave me and it has a million and one uses and kills bugs in a fascinating way. No larvae ! No skin mites or lice! Some people use it in their smoothies as it is said to flush internal parasites... Check it out you won't regret using it often but don't breathe in the dust it's harsh on the lungs...
