thanks Jason and Ron -- I've been buying King Feed, now that it's locally available, but will have to switch to their flock raiser, as Max is always in there chowing down with the ladies. they also always have oyster shell to snack on, but several of them really did have poorer shell quality (even with free-choice oyster shell) during the time when there were broodies/chicks in the same pen so everyone was eating chick starter... hmm.
lol mine never really touch the oyster shells much. I guess they pick at it when they need it though. Shells are usually in good shape

My old BRs couldn't care less about oystershell. The blrws and my bantams can't seem to get enough-ever. The oegbs don't seem interested either, the same cup has been in there for months and the only one in it is me.

I'm in trouble! Another broody mama, and yes, I will be giving her eggs if I'm lucky!

King feed is not super high in calcium so there is no rush to switch. He will be fine while the current bag runs out.

Like the others said some need more calcium than others so the free choice calcium works best.

I found this out the hard way. Ran out of oyster shell and kept putting off going to the feed store after getting my freedom Kings feed. Soft shells (and very porous ones) showed up rather quickly, within a few weeks, but were gone as soon as I started supplementing again.

1) How often do chickens yawn? My English Orpy Rooster has been doing this thing where he yawns a lot in a row for like 2-3 min and then is fine. Yesterday he did it but like yawned and then shook his head (like a dog would do if it has a foxtail in its ear) and then yawn again. He doesn't do it all the time, but he really has me concerned. Any advice?

Thanks always for the input!
You might want to do some reading on gape worms, just in case.

The feathers, totally normal at this age.

Look what I got today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He said the hen is a green winged scarlett. He said not one word about wanting anything back, only that she would lay at least two more eggs this week.

It's about the size of a large bantam egg.
