Ok, weirdest thing ever!

I had posted an add on Craigslist to sell about 11 barnyard mix chicks, & I went to meet the family buying them tonight.

I recognized them...

They're my boyfriends family I've met multiple times!!!

Crazy coincidence, right?!?!
A couple of years ago, my husband needed a specific odd tool fitting. Found it on CL. Arranged to meet the seller downtown. Turns out they recognized each other. Item belonged to my brother and his friend was listing and selling stuff on CL for him. DH got the fitting for free. Small world. Did you complete the transfer of all your chicks?!

OK, if anyone is interested in one of my Black Copper Marans cockerels (or two or three or all five) that I hatched from very dark eggs from a dark egg project I'm working on and some nice dark eggs from Deb, speak up now before we process them!!!

They are driving my layers crazy, chasing them and biting them! I found a little Blue Copper Marans pullet that's a couple of months old that was broody hatched so hadn't been moved in the Marans pen, with her neck torn open! When I dressed it (could have used about a dozen stitches) and put her back in the coop she was chased out by one of the boys who ripped off her dressing, tried to mount the little thing and then chased her through the pasture!!!!

Pure chaos tonight with hens running this way, cockerels chasing them that way! All the chickens in the Polish and Marans pens were lined up along the fence in awe of the fiasco! If it wasn't so crazy I would have taken the time to laugh at their stunned observation!

I'm out there, 6 days post op, chasing everyone, cockerels flying over my head, running between my legs....catching what I could and stuffing them into the grow out pen!!!!

I really, really hate to see these boys go to waste, they are beautiful, tons of leg feathering, big boys but there's just too many and the hens are going on strike! I can hear them having a meeting tonight discussing their terms!!!

If you or anyone you know that needs a nice cockerel to show and improve their egg color, please PM me.

Another pain pill for me tonight!!!! Dang young cocks! BTW they are very friendly and have never shown aggression to me, my husband or the grand kids. They're just running in a pack right now. Here's a couple of examples of them.

Hi is very nice looking!

If you have a cat that will kill those roof rats, I would like one. None of the ones I have had and none of the ones my neighbors have - and not one of the tomcats or wild cats that wander all over the back acres and eat anything else that moves will even try and catch these. Even the smaller ones are given a wide berth - its the same meanness in a smaller package... Unless they are trained on how to kill them, and it has to be first pounce - you do NOT play with these - the cats leave them alone.

two of my three cats started off as feral kittens, and while all three are good hunters, henry is the champion -- particularly good at catching gophers! I used to rent a place that was on a 12-acre vineyard, and that summer henry averaged more than a gopher a day -- one day he brought home five. and when we first moved in here, he had a campaign of catching roof rats that were living in the walls -- i have no idea how he got TO them, as i only ever heard them in the walls, never saw them -- and after he caught and ate a few, they made themselves more scarce. i sill occasionally hear one scampering in the walls (can't figure out where they're getting in from the outside), but he's never caught one indoors again.

this is henry -- nice long lean black cat:

and here he is with one of his gophers -- he so wanted to bring it indoors!

Nice boys! I had 7 of them torturing my girls so had to put in the freezer fast. Now there's just one, he is really good with them. He sits there and lets them groom him and he finds them food. Hope you re-home them or eat them soon.

Awesome kitty! Love when they get gophers

Small world!!! Yes I did. They were so excited lol :) small kids love chicks

Right now we make them in any size we want, she is not selling them. Hot glue, you are my friend!!

I have a 3 glue guns, and I am not afraid to use them!.......I just don't have any roosters!

If anyone is interested, there is a vintage trailer rally this weekend at the Petaluma KOA. Open house is on Saturday from 10-2. Tons of vintage cars, trailers, stuff.......
We have an old trailer and will be down there all weekend. It is super fun! I even have a huge vintage rooster blow mold light that I put on the roof of our trailer for these things.....it really is a sight to see...LOL I keep hearing talk among our fellow trailerites of a possible rooster-nabbing.

I never knew how big rats could get until my dog caught one. (before we had chickens) I was shocked at how big it was, at least 18 inches without the tail. I never believed my mom when she said they can get as big as cats.

Henry would be in paradise here - we have a ton of gophers. I've had some success with the gopher impaler trap. Until I loosely secured it, and the darn gopher pulled the whole trap into the hole! I dug around, but it's gone. Nothing else works, we've tried it all. The vibrating stick, they laugh at that and pop up a hole right next to it.

I moved 4 cockerels yesterday in preparation for processing this weekend. My hens are getting beaten up badly from too many roosters, a couple have some cuts on their backs. Time for a trip to the freezer!

Laura says:
Amazingly, this is all it took to solve my crowing problem. To make cut breathable fabric a couplw inches wide and long enough too fit the rooster with at least a finger's width between the collar and neck. Hot glue or sew the velcro in two strips with a 1/8 " gap between.

For chicken friends making these, be sure not to make the collar too wide. You don't want a neck brace. Also, it works best if the velcro runs the whole length of the collar ( in narrow strips) so when it is on the rooster the velcro keeps the collar from stretching when he expands his throat to crow. It's also important to make the velcro strips narrow and leave a gap between each strip so the rooster's neck can bend and move easily.

I can give you her full name if you'd like to thank her.
