That's exciting! What breeds will you be working with??addition to coop (two 4x8 breeding pens) is starting today!!
Thanks! Me too! Moving blows...... Have you given your chicken anything or just taking a wait and see approach?Sorry that this has been a rough move and that your girl hasn't improved. My d'anver hasn't really turned the corner either. I did find she will eat cooked egg and wild bird seed, to try and round it out I've been putting game crumbles and meal worms in also. She acts like she is cold and stiff most of the time.
Hope things get back to closer to normal for you soon.
I am not so sure about this now since chicksnthestiks mentioned it has an antibiotic in it and she isn't showing any signs of any respiratory issues or anything that would need antibiotics really. I did order some Valbazen which will hopefully get here quick. I called my local feed stores and no one carries it. They carry Safeguard.....?Sorry she's not improving. Try to get some food in her.
As for the wormer, I've never heard of it. But it doesn't look like it will work if your flock has tapeworms - which isn't unusual, I understand that tapeworms are really hard to get rid of. It's worth a try, it has a short withdrawal time. But I'd certainly follow up with another poop test to make sure it worked.
I just ordered the Valbazen. I hope she hangs on long enough to try it. In the mean time I am hoping the Corid helps.I looked up Hygromicin B the main ingredient in that wormer and it is an antibiotic that was developed in the 50's and the only FDA approved for chickens. It only kills three types of worms so that is a good reason to get the pooh checked if you want to know if you need something stronger. I did not send in a sample because the five big girls all had poopy butts and I already had purchase the Valbazen. I hope you have no more episodes of "when closets attack!". Maybe you need to go in them armed.
Where is it you are reading what vets have to say? On Facebook? Or somewhere else? I don't think I want to google German Showgirl, because I would bet I get unwanted results.I need to write down all the info I get from the facebook vets. Everyone in Europe uses this one wormer and is shocked we don't use it much. But I never remember what it is. They also freak out about sulmet and use 2 cocci drugs one after the other. ( well not everyone, this is more on the continent, and of that the people who write in english on chicken pages)
England is fascinating with their chicken habits. Almost everyone who keeps chickens has an ex battery hen and hey are considered to be beginner chickens. They take them to the vets all the fricking time, and the vets know about chickens! and the bill is like 30 bucks! People had heart attacks when I told them how much i spent on taking purples to the vet, lol. Of course, I'm sure I have a skewed sample of people, but what is considered normal is fascinating.
In Australia they have gone INSANE for the rooster collar. from what I gather, roosters are legal, but noise is not ( at least in Sydney) . I mentioned it to someone and in a day there were like 200 posts and I got emails from people on other boards asking for Laurens info. Here people are i'll say, less excited about it, lol. The not separating roosters out for separate laws makes sense if you think most of our laws are trying to stamp out the sport that shall not be named. They also call buff gold and someone is trying to recreate paint out of a line of splash chickens. Id love to get paint to them over there, but I'm not sure how hard it is to export eggs, especially to Australia, the land of a million regulations.
The german showgirl page is quite active too, but I don't speak german, so I just cruise for pictures and translate things that say show.
Boy I got off topic there! flowers, yes Nutmeg is your serema mamma. She is a tin thing! Not the smallest I have seen, but the smallest you want if you are going to hatch eggs from them, i think. I hope everyones chickens feel well today. /hugs to people with sick babies.
I still want a Basque and those Collancas. My one Basque that hatched turned out to be a boy.Good luck hatching!
The Basque usually hatch well when shipped. They are also very cute little yellow fluff balls when they hatch.
And oh my the eggs they lay are very nice!
Ron, it is all velcro so it will come off if it gets stuck and is adjustable. LAuren has changed some things i think, have not seen the design that got patented. Yes, it seems to be working well in Australia. The key is to get it at the right tightness. enough that they can still make noise, but not bellow. I think that is the part that is a bit tricky form the chatter I have seen. easy for some, needing more then one try for others. Obviously no one wants to go tight .Is the rooster collar working for them? How does the clasp work--more Velcro or do you use a button or a snap.
I believe, thanks to a breeder who understands feather colors and came up with a few marked like Paints in his AM breeding line, that paint is actually one copy of Dominant White over black - they won't get it using the Blue gene. Next time you talk over there tell them that. I am sure they have Dominant White if they have White Leghorns - then its just the long haul getting back to the correct breed body and all the rest of the stuff. Exporting eggs is extremely difficult - and I don't think they allow any exports from the US at all. I vaguely recall an international poultry show they had there where they had to have an act of god to stop the Aussies from destroying all the birds brought to the show from other countries...
I agree that "our" laws about roosters are trying to stamp out the sport that shall not be named. The laws about noise over there are just about noise - and those rooster collars would be great for reducing that.
I have a "Gold" Silkie boy here.. still available although I am very tempted to use him over his mother for at least one season - he is so much richer in color than the Buff she is, even if he isn't a single even color and has blue in his tail, darker on his wings and head and gold on his neck.

NO ESCAPE FROM CHICKEN MATHS!
Ali707, I've got her on Corid but that's it. This morning cucumber is what she wants, just threw the egg all over the bathroom floor. She seems to be enjoying the 75° room, I'm glad DH is out of town tonight.
