Sounds like a good plan, the first time my blrw's went broody this year 1 kept crushing them in the shell. Since her sister was brooding also I let her hatch them then stuck them under the other one after they dried off. They shared raising 6 chicks together.
I've seen pics of sisters brooding together. That would be adorable!
Work is good and I am looking forward to Thanks Giving. I am working on getting a second generation of Olive Eggers going. I have set up a pen and will introduce a Crele Penedesenca from Jasons flock to them soon. They laid 3 eggs today so the lights are working!

Merry Christmas Amelias!
Merry Christmas!! Your birds look like they're getting into the Christmas spirit over there.

Ron, just don't tell me they strung those lights themselves! Then again, you're birds are so amazing…it wouldn't surprise me

We are working on sharing an order for Urch Poultry.
Perhaps we should see who wants birds and where everyone lives so we can decide on a convenient ship to location. We may need to place a couple of orders depending on location. I am not opposed to driving, but would prefer not having to drive more than 1 hour to pick up birds.

I will start with my wish list and location. Whoever wants birds, please add your wish list and location.

. I'm hoping this is a great sign and she'll be a great mama. One dark marans egg and a lavender ameracauan/marans cross set.
@chiqita - I think i can get the babies from you and just add them in a few days. I figured these would start hatching tomorrow, I set them on Halloween. So your Bresse should be soon too :)
My hubby is out making sure her coop is all ready for the babies!!
congratulations! I hope today brings pips and zips and lots of chicks!

It's been too long since I've shared photos....

Hoping I can get Partridge and SP's. The kids probably not to interested in that big of a bird, guess they would have to stay here. I still miss my little dark Brahma when I go into my wide body bantam coop, so that would be good also. My luck it will be the Polish that are laying.
Wynette has some gorgeous SPPR's.

My husband just ordered a Hovabator 1588 -- Happy Birthday to me!

The new model has an LCD screen reader so that makes him happy too.

I might be a little excited about this.

I want to know about hatching eggs too, we want to do a NYD hatch if we can!

My chickens are almost all running loose. I don't have enough breeders separated to fill an incubator. Umm... really. 2 eggs. Yep that's all I'd have. The other girls are laying fine but I don't want to hatch out a bunch of mutts. Following this to see other people's ideas! Don't want to break the bank on eggs right before Christmas.

Did contact Papa with Papaspoultry in Redding. Put out feelers to see who I know that might be heading towards SAC from Redding around Dec 10. I don't trust the post office. They're clueless around here. I'm about to start chasing down postal workers to educate them on the proper handling of eggs.

Gotta run but looking forward to hearing who your favorite egg suppliers are.
Happy Birthday! I don't have squat for eggs available right now. All my welsummers (even the pullets) have quit laying. And my 34 week old barnevelder pullets haven't started yet!

I have a 3 year old Welsummer that flogged me the other day. I felt something come up behind me and hit my leg and was completely shocked when I realized it was him. He has always been such a gentleman with me and his ladies. Instincts took over and I slipped my foot under his belly and tossed him about 10 feet. He has not come within 50 feet of me since. I think he will behave himself for the next 3 years.
It may just be a random event. I was flogged ONCE by my welsummer rooster, about 2 years ago. I was talking on my cell phone while checking on them and whammo! I was so shocked! I took the cell phone in with me a couple days later and he started coming at me. I hung up immediately and he backed down. He has never flogged me again - he just doesn't like cell phones!

My 28 week old giant blue Langshan cockerel has just begun crowing and trying to get the girls interested in him. The older hens just chase him away and the only ones who let him boss them are his two hatchmates. He's still not got his romancing the girls moves down and most of the time hurries to grab the treats. He will break up any disputes. If two hens are having a tiff, Thor comes running across the yard to break it up. He usually gets turned on and ends up running back the way he came. Pet, our oldest hen and the first chicken that we got, has a case of vent gleet and sour crop. When I caught her to put her in spa timeout, she protested being grabbed. Thor came running at me all hunkered down like a linebacker. He came to a dead stop about 3 feet from me. I snapped my fingers and told him, "Don't you be doing that!" Then I moved toward him and he turned and ran. I love this guy so I hope that he doesn't get any more aggressive than that.

Thor

Thor and his hatch-mate. He towers over all the girls including my Buff Brahma and my Coronation Sussex!
Beautiful boy.

His behavior of coming at you when you are messing with a hen is a good indicator that he will be a fantastic rooster. For one, he protected his flock, but backed down when he realized it was you. When I picked up a hen and she squawked, one of my barnie boys came running through the pop door and bit me on the hand. (he bit first then looked to see what he was biting) He backed down when he saw it was me and not danger.
