The bad--almost everyone's combs are paler and floppier than the last time I posted photos. And my lighter RSL has lost a lot of weight, not just fluff (poor thing looks a bit ratty, though better--she's half big feathers and half little ones). Would just worming everyone without sending poo to Davis be a good idea? I can't remember if I still have the ivermectin I got for the guinea pigs before we moved to somewhere way too small or not, but I'd likely have to get new anyway, because it was quite awhile ago that I bought it, and I don't think there was any label left to tell me the concentration. No one's laying anyway, and, going by comb color, won't be for a while yet, so I'm not worried about any withdrawal period.
Sorry to have missed this!

It is a good time to worm them. Worm them now and then have the manure tested in the Spring.

Ivermectin will get rid of all the beasties(ok, not tape worms but those are very rare with chickens). Remember to repeat at 10 days and treat the coops.

I made cracked pie from the Milk cookbook this morning. The batter was insane can't wait to eat them!!
What is Crack pie?

I will be making Fresh Blue Berry Pie, German Chocolate Pie, Fresh Pumpkin pie and rolld tonight and tomorrow morning.

I will be the Baker for thanks giving.

Looks like poultry protector spray is pyrethrum. And I sprayed the coop down with it. I will have to order poultry dust. What is Ivomec?
It is Ivermectrin--a worm, lice and mite medicine.

I use a generic version. For Mites and lice use the pour on for Sheep and swine. If you have not used it before at your place, it kills them very quickly. Repeat after 10 days.

I hope you get rid of the lice soon!

What time is dinner? I will be there!
We will be at my Mom's place in Shingletown.

I will take pictures of course.

Try that first but be prepared with Poultry dust and liquid Pyrethrum for the coops.

Do you treat them with Ivomec?
I'd treat with Ivomec too. It's a good time to worm your birds and it will get rid of the lice/mites too. Treat everyone, lice can be hard to get rid of. Massive coop cleaning, nest box cleaning, etc.

Dosage for Ivomec is 1/2 cc for large/normal sized chickens, 1/4 cc for bantams or juveniles. You must get it on the skin (between their wings). It will not work if you put it on their feathers.

I asked this a couple days ago, but I think it got buried at the bottom of a page

It was also a bit wall-of-text-y, so I've broken it up to make it easier to read. No pics to go along with it, unfortunately, because the girls would move at just the wrong time

I usually worm once per year as a preventative. If I have doubt any other time of year, I would send a sample in first.
