California - Northern

Hi, just checking in. I can't go back and read the 1,303 posts since I was here last.

I'm currently still in England and won't be home until the end of March (there is going to be that little side trip to NZ). I miss you all and will try to check in more often. It's nice having friends to stay with and being retired to grant me the time. And a VERY understanding DH to tend everyone at home. My dogs must think I died since they can't read my emails home

I also miss all my birds, but I did find a place to buy farm eggs in the next village over.

Well the timer is going off (baking a cake), can't keep me out of the kitchen even over here

I'll try to respond to the PM's asap.

Hi Deb,
you are gonna miss the 6-8" of snow expected at your place ya know

My phone says it's 25 degrees outside here in Modesto poor chickens!

It is cold!

It is a sad morning for me--I lost an Australorp over night. She was gasping but I could not find anything stuck in her throat. I suspect she ate some of the flooring in the coop. They ripped it up recently.

She is off for a necropsy this morning. She is one of the Hupp Australoprs--not the blue one though one of the black ones. She is still pretty--nice glistening feathers and she is very heavy so not a wasting disease.

Wow, your DH is taking care of everyone until March so you can travel? Lucky you!

We miss you, but enjoy your vacation!

I'm sorry Ron.

So sorry for your loss Ron. I couldn't bring myself to give my birds the turkey carcass for fear they would get ahold of small neck bones and choke. I don't give them much credit on not eating things they shouldn't.

We have snow stuck to the roads already and it is falling harder now than 30 minutes ago. The forecasted high is only 32° so not sure if it is going to melt off anytime soon. About a quarter inch deep on the car.

Thanks all for the condolences.

That that happened once Where I grew up in the Red Bluff\Gerber\Proberta area. It did not go above 32 for several days. One of my cousins thought he could walk on a small pond. He was wrong of course!

Wet but ok.....

Such a sad surprise!

Hi deb! I guess I'm not gonna get cream Legbars from you at Stockton lol.
/hugs ron. That sounds frustraiting. Gasping always scares me the lungs are so fragile.

My little creamie (Silkie cream legbar) is broody. I am going to give her some muscovy eggs and see if they are fertile. She puffs out really well. I may move her into the Silkie coop and see if I can get some Silkie feathers blue egg layers once she has hatched these...
