California - Northern

Hello again everyone!

Took me awhile to catch up on all the happenings.

I have started to get eggs from the BLRW's and the basques started yesterday or the day before. Not sure which it was since I was rolling out the driveway at 6:30 for DD's bowling tournament, rescheduled after snow storm. The basque are laying the darkest eggs of all my layers, not like the eggs they hatched from at all! Since the lights have been on trying to keep the inside waterers from freezing we are getting more eggs than we can eat. Sure glad we are finally getting above freezing during the day. I now appreciate the ease of a garden hose when doing chores, two weeks playing ice breaker is enough!

I lost my sweet Ginger, I may try and find some more bantam partridge rocks eggs this spring. I had hopes of doing the NYD hatch but put off ordering until late and then when we got such nasty weather I didn't feel as bad for not getting eggs sent to me. We were in the single digits at night, can't imagine 6° does much to improve hatching.

I am sorry you lost her!

They NYD Hatch is going well.
not sure but I was watching one and forgot. went for 24.00 for 6 eggs another went for a little more with 8

I will have to take a look. Thanks for posting about them.

Happy Holidays, Everyone!

I put pictures of my girls in my annual letter this year.

Again, I haven't posted in awhile, but since then I've added a few more creatures to our crew.

Peggy and Chestnut.
Peggy lost her foot due to a predator at her previous home. It's healed, and before I saw her walk I was worried about how she would get around. I shouldn't have been. It's actually kind of cute the way she hops and swings her body forward. She keeps up quite well.

And, a bummer lamb.
One of our yearling ewes lambed about two weeks ago, and rejected this beautiful ewe lamb. So we now have a lamb bouncing around our kitchen.

And that's about it! I look forward to going through the pages I've missed.

Hey all, hello! I have a friend who lives in Eureka, now THAT's northern California! He makes fun of me when I say I live in northern California (20miles east of Sacramento) because HE's in the north, lol. I would have to say that anything south of Sacramento and north of the grapevine is in the central valley. It's all good!

Lol...When you say "Northern California" most people assume around the Sacramento area. That's why I tell people that I live in "FAR Northern CA", because I'm only about 3 hours from Oregon!

Nelly (right) and my foster dog Tweed(left), who finally has an adoption appointment mid January after being with me for over half a year!

Penelope Turtle Rose, named by my best friend - I call her Penny for short.

Carolina is very attentive, if I talk to her she just sits there and watches me, occasionally chattering back to me.
