She has a horrible pus-filled eye. It's huge. I'm sure she's suffering. She's 5 years old & lived a good life

Check with the CAHFS at UCD for their Holiday hours. They may be open tomorrow. If so, you can take the chicken in and they will Euthanize her for you.

Do you want the contact information?

Davis is too far for me to drive alone and no one would go with me... Maybe I'll call a vet

@chiqita posted on the NYD thread a post about the best way. It involved getting to the brains stem and the Hippacampus. They will feel no pain if you can get to it.

She is on the East coast though.

I agree. Its probably as humane as anything. The only thing though is the noise from a gun scares the rest of the flock so it would be best to do somewhere else

On the Processing day support thread By Sally Sunshine, a couple of BYCrs there use pellet guns. They are quiet. There is also a silent(or very quiet) 22 bullet that someone was using.

The way shooting would not be humane would be if you missed the brain stem. The Brain stem is fairly small in chickens.

Remember the silly Pita Pinta(Asturian Paint) that was wanting to lay an egg under the BBQ?

I found her first egg in front of the BBQ!
