also related to the bumblefoot thing. I did not lance it or dig around. Though picked the scab off of it the first day I soak her foot in warm water and epsom salts for 10 min a day, gob on Neosporin and wrap it up and it doesn't seem to have rescabbed and it seems to be shrinking. when I squeeze it nothing comes out. What else should I be doing?

And on a more positive chicken note I am going to try to hatch some bantams and I am thinking cochins...BBS, mottled, frizzled. Does anyone have them?

And another question...what in the sam hill do you think could be up with my 2013 pen...I was getting 5-7 for 7 every day for the 10 days after Christmas then, just like that 2-3 a day. I have got nothing from my Icelandics or my Polish x Dorking in a week and only like 2 from my Amelia and she is normally a daily layer. The Califonia Grey and Easter Eggers are the only ones still producing.

Joan Baez, the older of the two Dorking girls lays pretty much every other day and her egg is a very nice size. She is funny...very talkative and always under foot but still shies away. Jamie Lee Curtis is getting friendlier too. I do like a hen who gives me the time of day.

There is likely a big hard mass of whatever the stuff left from The Staff infection in the food. You will likely need to remove it via the Bumblefoot surgery route.

The Amelia will pick back up soon. They lay very large eggs for their size. The weather has been odd--Wind and large temp swings from freezing to mid 60s. They will slow down from weather like that.

Ok Ron, so like you suggested I've been puting my Isabel orp eggs in the bator everyday and dating them. Well they're all fertile! Now how in the world do I hatch them staggered like that lol?! I have a second incubator

How many days worth do you have?

Good news that they are fertile.

I would split them in half and set each group for hatching when the first egg in the group reaches day 19.

I hope this makes sense. You will be leaving a couple of egg at the higher humidity for a bit longer but it will all work fine!

She doesn't have a hard mass in her foot. The sore and the bottom are all quite soft. Is it possible I caught it before it became a full-on infection and it so it was localized to just the site and didn't spread deeper into her foot tissue?

Yes!

Keep treating it until the bottom heals.

What type are you looking for?

Crele
Black
Partridge

I would like two that watch out for danger, that are your largest size. Egg amounts are not important to me right now. In Mountain Ranch they will need to be in a large fenced yard unless I am out. I saw a small dog at our place today and another down the road unleashed. I need a guard chicken!

Does anyone know of a layer chicken food, crumble, that is a yellow color in the bag? It seems my girls prefer yellow colored food. Thank you
They may like food with a higher corn content. I feed my chickens corn and soy free food. They did not like when I switched but they eat it now. If you want to stick with corn, Hunt and Behrens Feed has a high corn content, or I guess look for any brand with Corn as the first ingredient.
