California - Northern

You finally got them :)   Looking like a few EEs, a Rhode Island Red and a Silver Laced Wyandotte?

How are your hatching eggs coming along? See any veining yet? :pop

Yes! & 1 golden Phoenix. I'm seeing veining in the orpington and silkie eggs but not in the Wyandotte eggs :/

Oh, I couldn't see the golden Phoenix in there.

Bummer on the bantam Wyandotte eggs

But you wanted the Orpingtons the most, so that is good!

Pulling out my brooder today and getting things set up! My first batch of chicks for the year is due to hatch tomorrow. Half of the eggs are from my Pita Pinta cockerel and our splash Langshan hen Hopi. The rest are from the farm and should be mostly Bresse but might be a RIR or 2. It is at this point that I always re-evaluate my set up. I've always used the red heat bulbs because that's what I have. I am thinking about ordering a Brinsea EcoGlow since I can't seem to win any contests for a free one. But I am also looking at the ceramic heat emitters since I already have 2 of the ceramic socket lamps that I use with the red heat bulbs. I'm just not sure what wattage I would need for the ceramic bulbs. I would love to hear your opinions!

Are you planning to use them along with the eco glow? Not too much wattage is necessary and the eco glows will work down to 40 degrees. I use them in the Garage without any other heat in the winter here. In the house I never need extra light.

Happy hatching wishes!

No its/for everyone selling eggs at the show. It is a really fun way to see new breeds, buy all the eggs. I'm making crissy hatch a few dz for me and taking the rest home.

Sounds like you're going to be over run with babies chiqita!! So happy to help in enabling you :)

ok PetRock , we do think alike! I've been on a certain FB page trying to win the darn brooder too!! I'm at the same point, may have to buy one. If you do get one, use the coupon code at brinsea.com for 10% off

:fl  Happy hatching wishes!

Hi Ron, couldn't tag you with my phone but I have a question. You said a while back that you don't need saddles for your hens? What's your secret? Do you take the roosters out certain days? Some of the saddles aren't helping as much as I thought they would . I saw stuff from the hardware stores for tool. It's like a plastic you can dip your tool handles in to coat. I believe it's room temp, not hot. I thought about just dipping their nails in it, not the toes. Not sure how good that would be for them. It's the toenails that are causing problems.I've trimmed the toes, there wasn't much to trim before I hit blood. I keep wondering your secret :)

I have 100 and 150 on the ceramics. The 70s don't seem strong enough. DO NOT get the black ones from China for a host of reasons including chemicals fire hazard breakage and bad glue.

So, the EcoGlow 20 is $74.99 from Brinsea without the 10% off. Does anyone know if they have reasonable shipping? And how fast is their shipping? Amazon has the EcoGlow for $74.57 with free and fast shipping for Prime members. I'm wondering if that's the better deal and the 10% off through Brinsea will only pay part of the shipping.
