California - Northern

I use moving boxes. Two Large Fowl per box for a large box so two boxes. Put some pine shavings on the bottom.

Oh--then I didn't need to ask local folks on FB for a dog carrier--I've got empty fruit boxes, and even have cardboard to block the big hole in the bottom/top. I was just going to use shredded paper instead of pine shavings, though, 'cause the paper's free.

Guys you're driving me nuts! I want my eggs to hatch!!!! They're due Wednesday!!!! I can't wait!!!! I keep having dreams!!!!!

She made it!! My CLB sweetheart girl made it!!! I'm so thankful! And so excited! What a nerve racking experience, but oh so awesome too! And I didn't intervene.

3 lovely little chicks all for me!

Thanks for all your support on this forum! I couldn't have done it without you!

Two more pipped. Two more nothing yet!

I'm thrilled!! :)

Your almost there! I totally understand I'm experiencing my first hatch ever!

Hope you have a great hatch! So excited to here about it!

First planned hatch... I hatched 3 eggs a silly unreliable broody was sitting on for a few days before we put them in the incubator. I came home one day and there was a chick siting in the auto egg turner! Humidity was like 50%!

Haha! Awesome! :)

Yes...the one with the "discussion" about not being available to California residents even though the seller lives in California. They never would explain why not, but posted a new on yesterday that was open to everyone.

Chiquita thought it had to keeping her stock out of the area so that they would not compete with the other breeder. California is a long state so that does not make sense. A person in Nevada or even Arizona would be closer than someone in Crescent City.

Congratulations!

That is silly for them not to want to sell in state.
if its a project they care about then they would need as many breeders working on them to get them perfected and standardized as they could get.
Until then they can call them a project but most on the ameraucana thread would probably just call them easter eggers.
sounds pretty though.

How big a dog carrier should I borrow for Saturday? I'd be getting, at most, 3 LF hens (I'll probably try to find started pullets, actually, but I figure I might as well estimate big...) When I got my current hens, I put 3 in a banana box with a lid, but that was less than a 10 minute drive--Ferndale's a little over 2 hours.

i find that those cardboard cat carriers make EXCELLENT chicken boxes -- they are just around the right size for an adult LF, and they close securely (even if its a feisty bird trying to get out) and are easy to carry (have handles) -- and usually are inexpensive at pet stores.

Congrats Audio...if you have and extra girl you are looking to find a home for I may know a woman...

you are just a bit over two hours North of me. The lady who sold the eggs might need a geography lesson but hopefully the eggs will arrive safe and sound and you will have a good hatch. Because like I said...I know someone with a weakness for mottled and a desire for Ameraucanas

I will definitley keep that in mind!

the only Marans colors accepted by the APA are black copper, wheaten and white. There is a splash color description in the APA but only in Modern Game bantams. There are DQ's for color.

Walt

Walt,

The Marans Chicken Club USA is showin an SOP for black also, but doesn't list a date it was accepted. It does show some winning birds on that page also. That is confusing me if you are saying Black has not yet been accepted.
