Ok...the bird is tagged, bagged and put on ice. I had to put him in an icechest, because if my husband found a bag with a dirty chicken in our fridge...that would be the deal-breaker.

Sorry for the morbidity and dry humor. It's how I cope.

Good Job!

At the Davis Lab, they have a room with a fridge for off hours drop off. I do not know if your lab does but if it is close you might want to check it out.

You do not want the Husband to grab the ice chest to take some beer somewhere....

I know right! We're going to Yosemite tomorow because we have a new 4- wheel drive that of course we have to play with. I need to hide the "chicken icechest" so he doesn't grab it to put our drinks in.

Thanks Debi for the info on coating the birds feathers with soapy water. Since I cant take him until Monday, I need to get him back out if the bag to do that.

Sheesh...will this day never end!

the 2 chicks that hatched so far are 2 crele x black mixes.
hopefully the pure ones will hatch now.
same rooster and the black were fertile.
I don't think the OE eggs are going to hatch since nothing has changed since day 7.
the new crele rooster is doing his job with the silver girls so I am sure this next batch will be fertile.

If anyone wants these chicks from this hatch ket me know.

Yeah, see, that's what mine used to do. At the old house.

But we just moved and today I gave them the option of free ranging at the new place. I guess the excitement of being let out for only the 3rd time at the new house was much more rewarding than staying dry, because I currently have a flock of chickens that are all soaked to the bone...I'll have to share the pictures I took, it's pretty funny.
