If they are sneaking some 4 am crows in try putting them in the garage at night.
I keep my boy in a dog kennel in the garage at night. I bring him in when I lock up the girls and put him out in the morning at around 8:30. I take off his rooster collar at night then put it back on in the morning. We are allowed roosters in my city but there are noise ordinances.

White is a complete and utter crapshoot. It is an ignore everything card so no way of telling what genes it is carrying.
Yay!!! I think it may end up being on the cool end of the color spectrum. Right now I am wearing an infinity scarf and the baby is tucked inside...quiet at last!

I read that as the chixk was walking around looking cool with an infinity scarf!

Our meighbor is trying to say they are crowing at night whicj they arent they start at 7am tho
Mine start in the 5-5:30 AM range. But I have a bunch of juveniles that feel they need to outdo each other, then the adults join in. No noise ordinance for poultry in Placer County. Plus, my "neighbors" (we're on 5 acres) dogs bark ALL NIGHT LONG so they have no room to complain. (and there is a noise ordinance for dogs)

Again with the mites issue.  REALLY!  :he

Found one today.  I thought I had them conquered.  Ideas please?  Would like to NOT toss the eggs for 2 weeks since I'm getting 15+ a day now.

Our breakfast makers free range so they get exposed to all sorts of stuff.  I've heard that the mites were really bad this year.  I guess its true!  I had a problem in November and thought I got rid of them.  We continually dust with DE and clean out the coop.  It just went a little longer this time because of all our company.  Whamo!  Mites again.

Suggestions?  Can I use activated oxine (I know not with animals around) in the coop and kill buggies too?

Thank you all so much for being free with your knowledge.  We'd be lost without the voice of experience over here!

We have never had mites ( that we know of) but earlier there was mention that de ( which I love and use in and out if the coop weekly) does not work so great- but to let them dust bath in wood ash! So now our cooled ash goes to the coop with the bedding changes .

Well, it looks like our dog is safe with the chickens--she went out when they were in the yard, and her first response to seeing them was to sniff around to see if she could find any "treats"
