No she will sit there whether there's eggs or not. You have to keep her out of the nest box until you can "break" her of being broody. I usually put my girls in a wire cage with food and water, no nesting materials and they give up pretty quickly. Or, you can give her some eggs to hatch :)

Check with Amy Beth @zooweemama

I have not heard from her in quite some time but she may have the coveted Silver Appleyard Duck eggs.
Thanks I had to get into my spam folders today to dig this all out. Stupid filters! I replied to her. And yes I still have the SAs, all pure and now recently laying again. <3

Sorry for the absence. We have had back to back flu and colds here. One of my broodies is currently hatching out some adorable little easter eggers. I had to cull one of my bantam roosters- he literally skinned another rooster. Totally unbelievable. The skinned roo is hanging in there. The skinner is several feet under dirt now. We hatched 8 chicken eggs NYD...6 are roosters. Seriously? LOL It's been hectic and weird over here!

Wendy must never read my posts.

@sewandgrow Karen is closer to you than I am. Ask her if she still breeds Dorkings. There was also a 4H person, last year, selling them on CL. She said that she got them from Karen.

I'm not ready to sell breeding stock. If your friend can't find them anywhere else, have her email me and maybe I can help, depending on what she wants them for.

It was bad enough that chiqita keeps calling me Capa, but now Ron is doing it, too?!

Please call me Kim, you guys.

Ron, (and everyone) be careful driving home. I can't believe how hard it's raining.
Thank you Kim!

I leave for home in 30 minutes and I will be very careful.

Broody hen experts!! I have a hen that went broody starting yesterday. It's just her and her rooster in the coop. If I keep taking her eggs will she stop?
She will stop laying eggs. They can be quite insistent and may sit like that for months if you do not break them.

Either let them hatch eggs of give her a couple of chicks. You can take the chicks away from her as soon as she accepts them if you do not want to let her raise them.

Its an old internet community habit. If someone does not have the name in the handle its rude to use it. So many people are parinoid online especially in big groyps of computer nerds ( which we are not) I know someone who almost ended up having to move and change jobs because he got called bob to the wrong person. So I am semi careful. I will try to not be rude the other way and call you kim!

If you are getting eggs she aint broody. But yeah keeping her butt cool supposedly also helps. I have never successfully broken a broody so im not that helpful!

When she is broody, she will not lay eggs, she will just sit. And no, she won't snap out of it, it's a hormonal change.

LOL NOOOO rooster luck. Hate it! I just can't fathom. A lot of dinners coming up... :p

It's ok. Everyone has stuff going on - this was just ours. Usually I don't catch the flu...this year I haven't been so lucky. And on the bright side I have some homegrown meat for soups from all the roosters. :)

Hope everyone is enjoying better health and hatches so far this year!!
