It's been awhile but maybe SL Polish on the crested.

Are the bantams pure?

I'm agreeing with OR4-hmom on saying SL Polish for the crested chick,
Mottled Cochin bantam for the feather legged chick,
And Silver Sebright for the smallest chick.
The bantams are from the feed store (from Ideal hatchery), so they are "pure breed" hatchery chicks. I looked up SL Polish, and It looks just like my chick. I hope they all turn out to be girls.

I tried to pick the least "manly" out of the bunch. I'll have to look up Sebrights, I've never seen them before.

This is the picture of SL Polish from "My pet chicken"

I hope so too!

I have three full incubators again.--and one stacked egg. I should be able to pull some clears again next week and next weekend I have a very big hatch of UofA blues and OEs(Crele Penedesenca pullets X an UofA Blue cockerel). I can't wait to see them.

Lizann, check the little one for rose comb and slate legs, seabright traits. Not uncommon for leg color to be off with Ideal birds though.

I've been wanting some UofA's. Are they as cool as they seem? My next set of chicks is due to hatch Thursday. I've sold a bunch of my big girls (I'm down to 9, with 2 more going on Monday) my chicken yard seems so empty now. :(. I still haven't heard anything from the city on my code violation.

Quote: Last summer, a hatchery New Hamp of mine had very thin shells and shell-less eggs. Gave her a drop of Vit D from a gel cap on a piece of bread every other day for a week or so. I thought it might help her with calcium absorption. Seemed to work and she's back to normal for now. This was my own experiment, and I didn't think it would harm her. Don't know if it would help with porous eggs.

The Pullets are fairly calm. The boys are acrobats! When I picked them up from Kim's place, they were flipping over my head when I went into the pen to get them. I caught on by the feet as it was doing a somersault over me.

It was very funny!

You know...Vit D could very well be the problem. They have not had tons of sun with the time of year. Their coop/pen is against a fence that blocks the sun when it is low in the sky like it is in winter . They do get out when weather permits....which has been a lot until recently.

I have heard that many people have thin shells and throw tons of calcium, when the real culprit is Vit D.

**Oh and 1 ducky out. Had to help her, it made a hole and no more progress. I have a couple that pipped on wrong side of air cell and one on wrong side of egg. Going to be watching those.**

Dr peter brown is doing a show on the chicken whisperer on Monday on fertility!! I need to remember to listen!
