We have a TSC in Woodland so I go there quite a bit. It is only a couple of miles away. You would do well with Western Pet and Feed. even better if they would stock King Feed. What TSC do you go to? I think I read that there's one in Galt, is it worth the drive?
Such cute little fuzziness! The Silver Campines are beautiful......I love their markings!okay, here are the chicks!two silver campines -- a third has hatched (that's 3 out of 3 eggs set, hooray!), but only about ten minutes ago, so it's still drying out in the incubator
and three blue isbar/SFH crosses (also 3 out of 3, double hooray!) -- one splash and two blacks. will be very interested to watch them grow & see if the distinctive mottling from the SFH side kicks in...!
Debi- this looks great! I totally get the only doing projects on weekends thing...It's worse with Steelhead season upon us! That trip to Eureka seems so long when there are projects to get done! I'll hope for rainy night's and sunny days so you can get some more of the coop done!I am so hoping that it is dry on Saturday! George and I started working 1 1/2 weeks ago on a new mini coop for the Pita Pintas. Since he is only home on weekends, our time to work on projects is limited. I'm anxious to have it finished so I can close them in the aviary for the first part of the day and actually know which eggs are pure Pita Pinta. Here are some pics of the work in progress.![]()

Oh! Almost forgot! Love those trays Debi! Can't wait to see them in person at Karens on the 18th!So nice to hear from you! That looks like a nice hen. Good Luck finding her a home. I am flabbergasted by the stories I have heard of people who just dump their chickens and walk away. Maybe this one wandered away from somewhere close by. She is pretty!![]()
Chicken found in Rocklin area. Over the past two weeks, she/he is hanging around my sister's work place. They hope to either reunite this chicken or do a forever home placement. Please contact me if you can help out!![]()
My pullets are all laying. Cream, brown, and blue eggs are delighting us. Our Cream Legbar only began laying in February. She and my other two were all hatched last April by Miss Molly. My Norwegian did a full molt in the dead of winter. My bantam Cochin is definitely prone to broodiness, but she is such a delightful character and iridescent black. Couldn't be happier with my mini city flock.
they lay very dark brown eggs.before I covered my runs I'd clip 1 wingDo any of you clip wings? I am thinking of doing it for the short term so that I can move some of my fliers around. We are planning to cover our big pen but haven't got to it yet.

Me too. I've also used Mallard Creek shavings without any issue. No, just that there is a toxic Cedar from the East Coast. West Coast stuff is fine though.
I get my pine shavings from TSC--No problems ever.
It is only 3 x 5 x 6 in the front. It is only for my 7 PP girls to sleep in and hopefully lay their eggs in. It would be better to have it a little bigger but they only sleep and lay in the coop. They are in a dog igloo right now and things are tight! We are going to drill big holes then cover them with hardware cloth in the front at the top and the back which is 1 ft lower. I might add a screened opening towards the top on the sides, also. We cut the little door just the right size for an automatic door that will be added in the future. This one is going together well thanks to the new tools I gave DH for Christmas! We might end up moving it out to the farm for a breeding coop and building a slightly bigger one for our aviary. I love chicken projects!!!
Already answered by someone else..............I am wanting quail for my son Aaron. I guess I will drive to Angels camp to get them for him. I want about 20 for him to have a lot of eggs. I taught him how I made pickled eggs for him when I had quail & now he wants to do it for him & his girlfriend. She is terminally ill & he is her care giver & they both love the pickled eggs.I have just decided to sell or process my quail and stick with chickens!
I know.......... huh???? I am so glad I hated feeling like I was monopolizing the whole thread with my responses......LOLWow
Wow Karen. You certainly have gotten the hang of multi-quotes...Lol.
My grandmother taught be to do that at a young age.....That feels like a century ago....LOLBYC has a good article. Clip the flight feathers on one wing. I needs to be repeated after molting.
