So far for this hatch, Group W33 has been the Champ!

I set 6 eggs to hatch and 6 eggs did hatch! They were in two tomato Baskets.

Maybe Kim should call her line of SG Dorkings Beef Steak Dorkings!

Also, they all have perfect feet and can you imagine more perfect looking SG Dorking Chicks?

This is a picture of three of them:

their markings are so perfect! well done!

The chicks look great! That hen produced some of the best, last year. I sent you an email, not sure if you got it. Do you want me to come pick them up now? Or are you waiting on some others?

Hi kim
So do you raise Dorkings for your own family for eating or show them?
Not sure exactly what there best assets are. But seeing those cute pics is leading up to enabling :)

Who was looking for Seramas here?  Was it Nikki?  There is a BIN over on the 24 hour thread for 12+ for $45 inclucing shipping

I have Seramas also. My incubators are full so I will be selling eggs this week. PM me if you're interested.

This chick cracks me up! A little rebel chicken!

Lol, I thought that too. He's a James Dean with a mohawk! Really cute.

Would a red mite be visible on a hen's back and look a bit like a smallish tick...not deer tick size but still tickish? If so is this what I can use to treat my birds? Sorry it is backwards...used photobooth Thanks peeps...no time to catch up right now but for those who are wondering....I do believe I have a broody. She got on the nest friday afternoon and I have only seen her get off once...This means that I will be able to play along with the Easter hatcha long which makes me quite :weee
. anyone?

I chose Dorkings because they are an ancient, historically significant breed that needed breeders. We do eat their eggs and meat. I'm happy with their dual purpose qualities. Initially, I thought that I might sell them as a meat bird, but they are slow maturing. Not many modern families have the time & patience to roast a heritage chicken, the way they did in the old days. I do sell some eating eggs.

I had no intention of showing, when I first got them. They need a lot of work, to restore them to the APA Standard. I would like to show them, to see how well my efforts are coming along. I hardly ever see them in shows. So, getting them out there where they can be seen by the public is another reason that showing is starting to appeal to me.

I'm getting eggs from my 2 year old layers.
They're huge!
So I wondered egg size weights.
EXTRA large is over 64 grams
Jumbo is over 71 grams

Mine were 73-75 and one was 77 grams!

They must think they're turkeys!

Edited for spelling
Great eggs! So many people up here think I'm crazy for overwintering all my freeloaders. Most of my layer flock are 5 & 6 year old birds, come spring and the big eggs start, no heat during the winter, no nasty pecking stage, I really appreciate my old ladies!
