I chose Dorkings because they are an ancient, historically significant breed that needed breeders. We do eat their eggs and meat. I'm happy with their dual purpose qualities. Initially, I thought that I might sell them as a meat bird, but they are slow maturing. Not many modern families have the time & patience to roast a heritage chicken, the way they did in the old days. I do sell some eating eggs.

I had no intention of showing, when I first got them. They need a lot of work, to restore them to the APA Standard. I would like to show them, to see how well my efforts are coming along. I hardly ever see them in shows. So, getting them out there where they can be seen by the public is another reason that showing is starting to appeal to me.

Speaking strictly as an observer, THANK YOU! I love seeing an uncommon breed and more so when done well. Those chicks are so cute, looks like your efforts are being rewarded.

Thank you, Deann! The black Orp. cock bird on the third photo is Lloyd, who is one of your Mr. T's son, who is one of the two main flock protectors, and he takes his job quite seriously and does a wonderful job, but, very gentle with me. I love him to pieces..

I would like to share some photos of my new BW Ameracuana chicks who recently joined our hearts and home. These beautiful, adorable chicks were bred by Chickee (Candy). They hatched on Feb. 14th : ) Couple of months ago, when I saw the photos of Candy's birds, I was quite taken by their beauty, but, when I finally saw them in person, realized that it would be very difficult to do justice to their mesmerizing colors through the lens of the camera. These chicks are beyond belief in person! It is such a wonderful experience to acquire birds from a delightful and gracious breeder lady.. Thank you very much, Candy!

I am so excited for the poultry show on the 29th. I'm hoping to come home with 2 chicks, if I find anything that interests me. Is 2 enough or do they need to have 3 for company?

They are in egg trays.
Should i let the one climb over all the rest or open it up and put him on the rubber shelf liner?
He's on a tray that holds 24, and in the back.
