Looks like we have a cockerel. I'm 99% sure of it. His comb is already reddening and he's got little wattles.

Here he is next to what we are hoping is his sister(PLEASE be a girl!!)

Most of you have probably already read this story as it has been passed virally via email. However, I thought I would share it in case some of you have not seen it.

********

Fred was in the fertilized egg business. He had several hundred young ' pullets ,' and ten roosters to fertilize the eggs.

He kept records, and any rooster not performing went into the soup pot and was replaced.

This took a lot of time, so he bought some tiny bells and attached them to his roosters.

Each bell had a different tone, so he could tell from a distance, which rooster was performing.

Now, he could sit on the porch and fill out an efficiency report by just listening to the bells.

Fred 's favorite rooster, old Butch , was a very fine specimen, but this morning he noticed old Butch 's bell hadn't rung at all!

When he went to investigate, he saw the other roosters were busy chasing pullets , bells-a-ringing, but the pullets , hearing the roosters coming, would run for cover.

To Fred 's amazement, old Butch had his bell in his beak, so it couldn't ring.

He'd sneak up on a pullet , do his job and walk on to the next one.

Fred was so proud of old Butch , he entered him in the Brisbane City Show and he became an overnight sensation among the judges.

The result was the judges not only awarded old Butch the "No Bell Piece Prize," but they also awarded him the " Pulletsurprise " as well.

Clearly old Butch was a politician in the making. Who else but a politician could figure out how to win two of the most coveted awards on our planet by being the best at sneaking up on the unsuspecting populace and screwing them when they weren't paying attention.

Vote carefully in the next election, you can’t always hear the bells.

I have decided that phoenix feather different than most breeds. I have 2 that have a good start on tails, it's to much to hope for that I got a trio out of this hatch, my luck doesn't run that way.

Have you peeked at the eggs Chickee? I hope you have a great hatch, if I order more I will only do the d'Anvers and run it drier that the first time.

I still have 19 that are alive, but that doesn't mean they will hatch. I am so nervous after what happened with your hatch!

I don't have long to wait. They go into lockdown Monday.

I think yours will do fine! The other breeds were just losing so much water and with only 1 incubator I had to cross my fingers.

Your blues are very pretty girls.

I put a single roost in my coop, however some of my hens choose to roost on the side of the pallets that the coop are made from. VERY thin board so it can't be good for their feet, however there's really no way of stopping them from roosting where they want to.
You got that rihgt...mine sleep in the nest boxes a lot.

Yep...looks like a roo to me too. That is a "boy" posture if I have even seen one!

Sure.....why not!.. Out of 6 mottled chicks that hatched the one I still have turned out to be a pullet!

The Genesis arrived today! Got it set up and stabilizing. Will move the egs to it as soon as it settles. I also got the quail eggs (40 of them) so I guess I will st them too. Can they be incubated with the chicken eggs?
