that is correct. That is not a silly question! I was wondering the same thing, but pretty sure only silver cuckoo (common type) is accepted at this time.
Quote: I know! I love that name too. I don;t really name mine, but might have to steal that one...
Quote: So cool! Thanks for sharing that. I see a few working on hatching right up front now
Oh, no!! Poor girl! I hope she will be OK. I know some birds will pluck the brood patch to allow for more direct contact with the eggs. I wonder if she plucked to hard...OkOKI had a ????....... Day today.
I'm out looking to/see if floppy is hiding her eggs because I'm low for an order and I have not seen her egg in 3 days. I saw a pile of feathers under the daeck and become alarmed. No body so I figure its just a weird thing and continue to look for eggs. No luck so I go to gather turkey eggs and see a more feathers on the stairs leading down to the gazebo and follow them up to pumpkins nest. She sees me and jumps up.
She has a clump of feathers and then... Her entire Brest is exposed!! I go to grab her and she is running around like a loon. When I finally corner her she has torn an Lshaped hole in her skin exposing her crop her muscle.... Everything. W...t.....h.......
My vet friend called for something else as I came in and rushed over. Pumpkins took an hour of stitching.how can you lay an egg when you need an hour of stitching?
I don't know if fowl run into disasters more then mamels or if the number of chickens makes more disasters per hour owned. But man they keep coming.
Quote: Ohh, they are doing wonderful! such joys to have.. All are busy growing their cheeks and beards, and their colours are simply gorgeous. For 9 wk. old chicks, they are quite nice size. I have been taking your chicks' photos once a week to see their development. Last week, I transferred them to the large cage in the chicken house, but they were terrified; had to bring them right back into my studio. I mean; they were standing right by the cage door, lined up right next to each other, making the saddest, loudest chirps and trying to jump out when ever they took a glimpse of me. Well, at this point, I have no idea when they will be moved back out again : )

Awww, sad you lost them! I struggled for a year off and on with my porcelain hen that hatched the star gazer, that kept acting like she was going to die. I think she had peritonitis. Now she is fine but doesn't lay eggs. She is a favorite pet, so it doesn't matter to me. Now I hope the two porcelain chicks I hatched will be pullets to breed to her brother.Miss Ickle was the first one we lost. Went out one morning and she was dead in the corner of the run. I think it was internal laying that took Cupcake, her eating improved when I brought her in the house where it was warmer but she passed the third night.
We have a fawn SDW OEGB also, typical hatchery bird, twice the size she should be and off color.
Thanks! That is one of my favorites. Its color is so striking with its silver body and jet black markings. It will be a black mottled.Very sweet!!!!! I especially love the one with the fluffy white butt!!!![]()
Thanks Walt!that is correct.

X 2, thought you might be at a show. Deb's description of smudged makes so much since to me.Thanks Walt!![]()
They are very pretty!Ok, here's some pics. Mom kept trying to hide them. The first 2 will be Ron's penedesenca/UofA cross, and UofA blue, and CL's (girls right??)
The yellow pic was a big surprise. Supposed to be Lav AM/blue Marans cross BUT it came out yellow with 3 tiny, tiny black dots. So it must have been my hatchery bird . She was "supposed" to be a white AM, but can from a feed store. She is all white, but hatchery stock. I can only assume I grabbed the wrong egg because the Lav am cross is giving me black and blue chicks. I don't believe white is possible, unless the Marans threw out a white gene. Don't even know if that's possible, but I read of the odd white Marans chicks out there. The feathered legs tell me the Marans is the daddy
