Hi everyone! I'm behind here again, but it's fun catching up.

Totally not chicken related (well in a way since we need a vehicle to go to work to support our chickens!) is there anyone in the community that is selling a 4x4 vehicle? Our 4Runner blew a head gasket last night. Lame sauce!

Oh no! Welcome back & good luck finding a replacement.

Someone on the 530 Poultry group said they'd take my Marans cockerel, then backed out an hour before we were supposed to meet. I'm frustrated, he needs to find a home before he starts crowing. As soon as he starts crowing he's in danger of being killed, and I really don't want to have to do that...it would break my heart, but there's really no other option. Cannot have roos here. Why can't people stick to their commitments? :(

Have a question about roost space.

I have roughly a 4 foot per side cube (more like 3'8"" inertnally)  and thinking of putting  2 levels of 2"x4" (large side flat)  across one side of the coop like in ladder like fashion.  How far from the top and how far apart should these roosts be. I have the Dels, Buff Orps and will have CLB eventually in the coop.

I also am curious about the nesting box. I made one 17" deep front to back  14" tall at the front(13" at the back) and 29" wide.  Should I divide it or should I just leave it large like that.

Ill have pictures of the coop mid construction tonight.

One more question about the Door hole how big should that be.
Thankfully my pop doors are big enough to get out, it wasn't easy.

My husband made 3 more nests this week. The other chickens haven't gone into them yet. Maybe it will take a couple of days. On another note, I bought a chick for my broody JG and they were doing fine until today when I left the coop open. When mama went out and was taking a dust bath the chick was pecked by another hen drawing blood. My question is if I place the Mama with the chick will she start pecking the chick also or should I keep them seperate (right now they are seperated)? I am doubting the chick will live. Her feathers are gone off her neck and there is a wound there.

If you split the nestboxes in half, they would still be plenty wide. Some hens prefer to have privacy.

As for the coop door, mine is 12 wide by 14 tall. 12 by 12 would work too. If your birds are bantams, you can go smaller.

Does anyone know the percentage of weight loss for incubating chicken eggs?
And I got shipped eggs, should i let them sit or just put them in the incubator and not turn for a few days?
@chickee - I thought you said shipped eggs you do at a higher humidity. I've got shipped marans eggs and was curious about using a higher humidity@chickee
Edited-Autocorrect changed Marans to Arabs lol!
