How about from San Luis Obispo (SLO) is South. Though Visalia, Bakersfield and all those area are considered (Central) but we will allow them to be considered "northern" with us. lol

I know bacteria is crucial and can kill the embryos. But, one of my FBCM hens went broody, and after I moved her to the hutch and gave her "real" eggs--everyday she asked to get out and dust, I let her out daily the entire time (except the last couple days she buckled down) she came back very dirty to the eggs and ALL but one hatched out of 12. I'd say that's not too bad. I think the more I become educated on incubating the worse I'm getting, hahaha A couple years ago I thought if would be fun for my foster kids to experience chicks hatching. I didn't have an incubator then, so I ended up using my Mom's OLD electric frypan skillet. I put a little shaving on the bottom and a folded up napkin with water into a cupcake tin--that was it. As they hatched they created their own humidity. IT WORKED GREAT!
I've a video of the actual hatchings and can share, if I can figure out how to load it. JUSTSTRUTN might still have it to, as I shared it with her. So, anything is possible. What about these people that say they've hatched eggs after they've been in the refrigerator, what? lol

The bloom on the egg protects for bacteria getting into the egg. If the egg is cracked and or the bloom is washed off, it will often lead to bacteria infecting the egg. Of course bacteria has to be present at your place and it has to be a bad one.

I dont hear chirping or anything (what i meant by seeing is seeing the darkness inside) i can still see veins so does that mean hes still alive?
The veins recede at hatch so you often only see darkness on day 20.

There is hope until day 22 or so. Then chances are fairly low.

I hope it hatches for you!
