Will the light be on most of the night?
I bought one an set it outside the small coop to test how much light and how long it lasted.

Most of the time I've checked it is off by midnight or so. (longer as the days get longer but not overly long) It isn't a ton of light either its a small one. Ive seen some rather large ones but I went with a small one.

Hey guys, I'm new here but I'd like to say I live in martinez If anyone knows where that is!
Welcome! I grew uo in the ba ares so I am a little familiar with Martinez

Coop pics almost done needs a roof and paint but pretty much done.

One more freestanding removable roost will go inside to provide access to the higher roost if needed.

Once done with that its a matter of framing in the run and adding a ramp.

Very nice! It is starting to remind me of the fort my 2 brothers built when we were kids. Even looks like there is a gun port!

Im mostly wanting marans.
so for my questions about the ducklings, how hard are they to care for and are they loud?
Ducks can be very messy and require water they can bathe and/or swim in. I hear muscovies are are pretty quiet. They hiss more than quack

I need to post a pic of my crested Pekin she is so pretty. Almost has all her feathers in now :)
So...whats keeping you??? We want pictures!!!

Quote: I used a 1' x2' to span the width of the door and made a slot on each side of the doorway. I can remove it for easy cleaning/sweeping and put it back in place on between.

Quote: We used composite on ours. We went to a home improvement store and they had some broken bundles that we bought for about $15.

Say hello to my (soon to be) babies! Top carton was free eggs, 2 Tolbunt Polish, 2 Welsummer, and 2 Japanese Black Tail Bantams. Middle carton is Welsummers, Marans, an Ameraucana(sp?), and an Olive Egger. Bottom carton is Trader Joes fertile eggs, I'm assume White Leghorns? Does anyone know for sure what they are? I think I had asked this before but I don't remember.
Very Nice! Most of the people on the TJ thread have said theirs were Leghorns or California whites. There are a number of pictures of what folks got at the beginning of the thread.

My incubator should be here in just a few hours, it's on the truck for delivery! Waiting until tonight or tomorrow morning to set eggs, I want to be sure it's working correctly and that I have it all figured out before I set eggs.
I would give it until tomorrow morning before setting anything. They seem tp be pretty reliabe, but you want to make sure you don;t get a big spike aftwer you set them. The temperature will drop a little right after you set them ands the eggs gradually warm up to incubator temp.

Quote: The solar rope light works great in mine! It had been going for 2 years nor, ut I think I need to replace the batteries. this year. I am not familiar with the solar boat cover fan. Can you elaborate on that?

Is this the correct color for an Ameraucana egg? She said they're pure Ameraucana but she spelled it wrong...

Ok I can feel the symptoms coming on. Incubators? Ive been ignoring the talk for a while now. But now that I might have a line on a place to breed/grow out birds the subject has to be addressed.

I'm sure there is a value point at which the various features become more expensive than is practical.

Ive started reading the incubating thread here but there is a lot there.

Hehe. It's okay, embrace it! You know you want an incubator! Mine arrived about 45 minutes ago, I sprinted to the front door when I heard the doorbell ring. Ran back to my house with it(I was waiting for it in my parents house, I live in the guest house), unboxed it, and set it up in about 5 or 10. It's running perfectly right now. I love it. Get an incubator! Do it!

Here is a better (and less giant) picture of the egg. Do you guys think it could be a pure Ameraucana, or is the color off?
