I lost 2 hens. Strange thing was they were both Splash Ameracuanas & both dies in the nest box (different holes). How are the chickens doing in the heat? I turned on the misters today but all seem to be doing fine so far.
We have fans & misters & used them a lot last year after losing a couple. 100 degrees happens here from time to time.Im thinking of adding a cheep box fan outside the portion under the coop and possibly dropping an ice bag behind it during the middle of the day.
I need to get a mister does anyone have a product they like.

A judge/breeder on another forum posted that the outbreaks of LT in backyard flocks are coming from rescued battery hens. He said hens in production layer houses are vaccinated with egg culture vaccine, which makes the birds carriers. This isn't an issue in bio-secure layer houses that practice all in all out. It is a problem for people who rescue these hens and integrate them into their flock.
It's a good idea to make sure that any poultry that you add to your flock has not had any vaccines that will infect your flock. He recommended the tissue culture vaccine for LT if necessary.
I think this is the best yet. I think I could rig a couple of these near my coop.So sorry that you lost your hens, Karen!![]()
