California - Northern

@Kaylish , if you decide to tube, put in a small amount then gently massage it, repeat until the crop contents feel mushy, like when you add water to their crumbles. Be very careful handling after as pressure on the crop from being held can cause them to vomit and aspirate.

Edited to add:
What does it's poop look like?

I gave it a little massage this morning after it had some water and the crop seemed to soften some and looked a little smaller by the time I left for work. Poop looks mostly normal; maybe a little on the dryer side. I left him with water for the afternoon. If there's no improvement by the time I get home I'll try tubing. Thank you for all the information!

Anything north of Point Conception is considered Northern California. Personally, I'm north and east of Sacramento

There are some amazing people and a TON of information here!
What kind of birds do you have?

Many of you probably already have a method for fixing a hatchling with curled toes, but I thought I would share how I just did one:

Masking tape on bottom of foot

Masking tape on top

Excess trimmed off

Hopefully it will be okay in a day or two

That's the taping technique I always use, but I use the white sport's tape. Mostly because DH used to be a coach and has cases of the stuff, but it works great. It sticks, stays, but when you're ready to remove it, it comes right off without any skin damage.

Nice job!

Wish Id tried to fix Pepper's toe but I didn't realize it was as bad as all that I thought she was just standing funny at first.

Update: When I got home the little ones crop was almost empty!

Gave him another massage and an hour later it's all clear. Thank you all for the info and support; I think I could have tubed water if I needed to and am feeling just that much more confident in my ability to be a good chicken mama.

Would some plain yogurt and/or scrambled eggs be ok/beneficial at this point? He (and his buddy)have been 24 hours with no food; just water. (I didn't separate them cause it's just the 2 of them and they FREAK out if they're not together)

That's great!

If he were mine I would offer him crumbles soaked in water, real mushy, maybe with a pinch of chick grit.

Chick Grit
scrambled egg
a tsp of plain yogurt

Still give him the 9 or 10 grain cereal and then start on a good chick starter.

He should be fine now.
