Ahh, I'm sorry I wasn't clear. I was wondering more about how effective the vaccination is against tumor growth. Though as a related question, with the understanding that vaccinations are not necessarily benign, what problems the vaccination itself brings with it. I wish the test for the genes that confer resistance or susceptibility was available and reasonably priced- they've found the genes, hurry up with the test!

LOL- but I'll bet my questions will all be answered on Nambroth's page.

Yes!

It protects about 3 to 5% against tumor growth.

From the article Kathy posted, there are more virulent strains that are not helped by the current vaccine.

He had a very good life while alive, so I feel pretty good about that. What I found interesting was that when I did a cloacal exam on him I could actually feel some of the tumors, so I was not surprised by what I saw when I opened him.

That's the best way- give them a very good life while alive and a quick death as needed. Sounds like your timing was good.

My jubilees were too. I made it a point to pick them up every day and seemed as soon as they started laying they calmed way way down :)

Oh I hope that's the case. I just want to pet them cause they're so fluffy. But she doesn't like me and thinks I'm trying to kill her:lol:. I'll start picking her up more

It only helps 3-5%? That's frustrating but how it goes I guess

Farmers feed in Gilroy said next week on Thursday. I've been calling for a couple weeks already to find a companion for mine. I went in today hoping to find one and they said they still weren't old enough to let go. Too delicate and that today's shipment of Palm turkeys didn't come in for some reason, but as I went looking through and around the other chicks I found one in the leghorn group. It was the only baby turkey there and it was like fate because they didn't know they had it till I pointed it out. They were thinking the new ones were there only I guess and didn't notice it. They couldn't tell me what breed, but maybe you can.

Yes. with regular Mareks, about 10% get mareks cancer. with the vaccination, 5 to 7% get Mareks cancer. If you have more then 10 chickens in our area, you will on average have a chicken that dies of Mareks cancer even with the vaccination.

It's so cute! I don't know breeds yet. I may have to see if I'm up that way anytime soon. Thank you!

Farmer's doesn't usually buy Palms, they buy BBW's and BBB's. If that's one they hatched, which it probably is, it's from their adult turkeys outside, which are allowed to breed to whatever they can, lol. Cute poult!

If you're going to Farmers for poultry, it's best to go on days Lalo is there, which are usually Saturday - Wednesday.

Kathy...where is a goofd place to get the feeding tubes?  I was planning to try it with fish airlne tubing if she had still been alive the next day.  I have hand fed hatchling finches so am pretty comfortable with the process, but have no idea where to get the real feeding tubes.

That's great!   I think I have a pullet that has started to lay, but not sure who.   I can never catch the bird in the nest.  Problem is....none of my pullets should be laying light brown eggs.  I have one FBCM and two OE from Chickengirl1304 and one Mott AM from Luvinbluechickens that are all close to POL.  The Marans looks like she should be laying, but these are very light eggs and she should be laying dark ones.    I am stumped as to who the layer is.

It could be that it it was though.  If the other tests come back negative then I will have to assume that was at least a contributing factor.    And I appreciate you mentioning the multiple sources.  It is not something that would have even occured to me.  I most definitley will now though....

I got a metal thing with a large bit on the end dor chickens. I can't put it in the lungs but only good for juvies and up. Y good for juvies and up.
