California - Northern

Paper says we got 1/4", but out here we always get at least double. Lost power for 1 1/2 hours right as the Giants game was coming on, fired up the generator all was good, except the final score. Had a lot of small limbs on the road this morning with pine needles galore hiding the lines.

At least it is a start to rain.

I hope power stays on for tomorrows game.

Here is the little OEGB yesterday afternoon after she warmed up and was tubed vitamins, dextrose and water. She still can't walk, but now she can stand. All bugs are gone, so the spray worked.

Poor thing looks rough, but congrats on the progress. I hope she surprised you by pulling through.
How did those up past the rain storm line do today?

We were dry in Woodland.
We got a modest amount of rain and it was very nice to have.

I took this photo today to show the friend that gave me eggs for Frieda how much the chicks have grown since the 4th, and figured you folks just might enjoy it, too ;-)

I lack @BCollie 's mad camera skills, but the photo box I made let me get a few decent pics.

They are beautiful!
Quote: One of the first things my broodies seem to teach the chicks is how to dust bathe. It is quite adoreable!

Quote: These boys are amazing looking!

I have some good news!!
Some of you may remember how some of my hens had varying degrees of feather loss on their backs. The speckled sussex, who have since passed away, had extreme feather loss. The feathers weren't falling out or picked out, they were broken. Nobody had any idea what was causing it. My only hen with feather loss now is Charlotte, who is on the very left in this picture. The Splash Andalusian next to her never had feather loss and neither did the Blue Andalusion in this picture. I have noticed a few broken feathers on some of my younger POL pullets but nothing anywhere near as bad as Charlotte (left) in this picture.

After probably 6+ months of her looking like this, I looked down today and noticed something...she's growing feathers in on her back! Yay! I hope she looks somewhat normal soon. Still stumped as to why it affected the SS very severely, the LB a little bit, and not at all on the Andalusians.
That is so great she is feathering in. Maybe there was a nutritional defeciency that has now been corrected

Look what one of my peafowl buddies made:

Definitetly saving this one!

Have a chick that's not lookin so hot

went to give the chicks more water and this one was laying on its back. I immediately had a flashback to trying to kill the dying baby Chocolate Orp a few days ago. I picked this one up...

You can imagine my relief when I set the chick down and it stood up.

I had my step dad hold the chick for me so I could force some water with Sav A Chick probiotic down it's throat. It actually was not that hard, as soon as it tasted water (the chicks had been out of water for a while) it opened it's mouth and started drinking, so I just put a few drops on the top of it's beak and they rolled into it's open mouth. I don't have any electrolytes, I thought I did but I guess not. Which sucks because I think electrolytes are probably what it really needs. Fingers crossed that it survives...not much else I can do at this point.

My dog is extremely concerned, she would not take her eyes off the chick.
Awe....so sorry you lost it. There is a homemade recipe for an electroyte solution that might help of this ever happens again:
1 cup water
2 teaspoons sugar
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon baking soda
Another fire:

Oh...I thought by now we were past fire season I guess it depends on location
Sigh... Was at the feed store today and found a very ill OEGB that was covered in mites! Of course I couldn't leave her there to die, so I brought her home.

You are such a softy....

Pretty decent rain here. It started around noon. We are to get more on Sunday and again next week
