Have any of you tried Bayer's Tempo SC for mites in coops? I bought some for flies arond the house and yard, but haven't tried it on mites yet.

I have mites/lice now....must have been transfered from the huge flock of ravens that came in last month. They took over my free ranging chickens best foraging area around the horses. Now I see the horses are itchy too...I'm having to put by hand, all these birds that are roosting on a wood rail fence..are being picked up and locked into a chainlink chicken tractor. .carrying each has caused some to get onto me too.

We've had a bear take 4 chickens in one night....a neighbor shot at it or got it the next night, then the night following we had another missing presumed eaten by another predator before I'd put them in the chicken tractor. ..so I've gone out earlier to move all the chickens in....but one of our little dogs who'd been sprayed by a skunk the week before....ran after something else she'd seen into the night...my husband heard a sharp scream cut off...then nothing. ..we spent thewhole night with flashlights looking but no sign that we could tell what it was...or find our little dog either.

In the light of day my husband found bobcat tracks....

Do you think the added stress to the birds is also making the lice/mites reproduce like crazy?
Wish I could retrain these birds to go in the tractor on their own at dusk/sundown anyone have any ideas that could work? Guess I'm getting sevin dust and pillow case everyone I can get a hand on...as well the fence and perches too. All the bedding/deep litter....I'm wanting to also replace all the nesting boxes with 5 gallon buckets....has anyone tried these with perhaps artificial turf with maybe velcro to hold it in place on the bottom?

Perhaps I'll also use pest strips like McMurry offers...
I have about 20 eucalyptus trees on this property too...perhaps gathering branches and leaves added to fresh litter. I just hope the 'cure' isn't as bad as the louse/mites...

I noticed this morning that all but the two smallest chicks seem to now be using the nipple waterers almost exclusively (which is great since I want to switch them to a Chicken Fountain system in the run when they go outside). They didn't use them at all as far as I could tell until maybe two or three days ago. Then one of them started and of course they ALL had to come see WHAT THE NEW THING IS!!! And now they're just moving themselves over. I'll keep the quart jar fount in the brooder as well though until I see the little guys using the nipples, too.
I have decided to use both nipple feeders and founts or buckets that they can dip their beaks into. They seem to like the one for entertainment and the other for a long cool sip.

Little Lavender Orp chick didn't make it.

RIP little thing.

My dog couldn't accept that she was dead. She was restless and licked the little thing.

Why have I been having such bad luck with chickens lately? Lost 3 hens in 4 months including my favorite girl. Horrible hatch. Chocolate Orp chick died, and now this one. Ugh, I don't understand what I'm doing wrong
Sorry for you chick losses. Seems like your dogs are amazing!

Here is the little OEGB yesterday afternoon after she warmed up and was tubed vitamins, dextrose and water. She still can't walk, but now she can stand. All bugs are gone, so the spray worked.

I'm pleased, 'cause she sure looked dead when I found her yesterday morning. Poop is looking greener than it should, so I wonder if she has an underlying disease.

That's the hard part when rescuing animals like that. We've all done it, but all too often it doesn't end with a happy recovery. I really hope this is one of the good ones!
