RIP little thing.

My dog couldn't accept that she was dead. She was restless and licked the little thing.

Why have I been having such bad luck with chickens lately? Lost 3 hens in 4 months including my favorite girl. Horrible hatch. Chocolate Orp chick died, and now this one. Ugh, I don't understand what I'm doing wrong

So sorry the little orp didn't make it BCollie. I've been having pigeon issues up here. They are hatching just fine but one of the parents are smashing them in the nest. I just don't have the time to be able to hand raise them and so far no luck determining which parent is crushing them. I'll pull any eggs laid till February and try again. Losing 1 hen and 6 squabs in less than 2 months is very sad and hard emotionally.

A hawk came to visit four times today! No birds lost (luckily, I'd not let any of the hens out to range in the yard before the first time it came). Most of the boys, even some of the very young ones, were great about staying out in the center of their pens, all puffed up and ready for a fight (or leaping up at the hawk overhead). I could hear the hawk thinking "Eeny, meeny, miney, mo" as she surveyed my birds and rabbits

. Got it with the hose a couple of times.

Be careful, it's that time of year that the hawks are migrating.

Sadly this is my conclusion too after losing two of mine. And it's distressing and not for the faint of heart.

You did the best you could for that chick.

Yes, something was wrong with it.

Sadly this is my conclusion too after losing two of mine. And it's distressing and not for the faint of heart.

Even if they recover, they often are either constant work and or they will die within a years time. Their short life is often hard for them too.
